I actually did build a lm1875 gainclone while I was in France, but it couldn’t come with me. It definitely sounded better then the desktop SMSL I was using. I might do that again because there was some things I wanted to improve upon from that build. Too bad chipamp.com is no longer doing business anymore. Maybe I can get a board from Neurochrome instead. I did find this though:

    https://m.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Class-A...0-Channel-Audio-Amp-/263094278540?_mwBanner=1

It uses a TDA2005R chip which I am not familiar with. I do like the idea of using the chassis as a heat sink. It’s cheap enough that I can take the risk.

I did do some measurements with my multimeter to see how much power I am need. Around 0.5W it gets plenty loud while sitting at my desk. It seems like the high power requirements is mainly in a living room setting. So maybe I will consider the jlh69. I can always use it later for my Fostex project or to power a tweeter for bi-amping.

yeah, I can confirm that in my experience with a couple of well rated class d amps, i prefer the literal gaincard using the LM3875 with regulated psu. incredible tangibility and detail and a sense of space and simply the musician being there in your room that seem to escape class d amps. class d amp id say are more polite, with a softening of the attack, not bad as its got good detail but it lacks a certain presence. lm3875 gaincard are only 30 WPC though but it is high end stuff. my dht PP amps are slightly better everywhere but my gaincard isnt embarrassed either. the volt+ class d amp + a gaincard using audiosector lm3875 kit will cost 500$ for two amps, worth a try for not much money

So can someone point me to resources on designing a listening room. I am about to start designing a new garage to replace the one that is terrible shape. I am going to have attic trusses on them to add a second floor and I want part of that floor to be a dedicated listening room.

Particularly anything on dealing with smaller rooms. I am pretty sure the max this room could be is 15x 10-12x 8.

I saw someone recommend what seemed like an excellent book on that somewhere on here but now I can't find it.

I had a mini amp shootout at my place between my Odyssey Khartago (upgraded caps and internal cables/terminals), an NC400 stereo and a Job 225. Not quite falling under the $1k limit but all would be if you find them used.

I felt there was not much to choose from between the Odyssey and the nc400. Both had similar overall balance with very controlled extended bass, excellent dynamics and clean mids & treble. I could live with either but for me the Odyssey had a slight advantage with better texture in the bass and conveyance of musical emotion. Admittedly there is likely some ownership bias in this!

The Job 225 was the most different of the three. By comparison in my system it was noticeably more forward in the mids/upper mids to the point of sounding a bit shouty and harsh. Bass seemed a little bit reticent as a result. I do believe that this could work better in some systems but for me would require careful matching and I prefer to start with neutral sounding components as much as possible.

The rest of the system was:
    Naim Unitiqute>
VDH 3T the sea rca-rca or monoprice rca-xlr cables.
    Amps were feeding
Wharfedale Jade 3 speakers on heavy solid teak stands

Maybe it's just showing your speakers 3khz+ 5dB raise as it is?

How do you like the Jades? I'm currently even entertaining getting Jade 5's, someones selling a pair for 1100€.

That is possible, although the jades did not sound harsh/forward with any of the other 4 amps I heard them with (the two in the shootout plus Naim nap100 at my place and a shop demo with Exposure 3010s2d).

I have since swapped out the Jade 3's for various floor standers, but I still think they are excellent speakers with minimal box colouration which is something I tend to hear with most MDF square box speakers. I like the Jade 5's too and that's a great price for them. They were an option for my most recent purchase but a direct comparison showed the Jade 5 sounding more 'tense' and less effortless & natural than the Quad S5's, so I went with the Quads. Even after only 30 hrs of play these are sounding like they could be my end-game speakers.

Looking into speaker stands for my nearfield setup. If my lazy side prevails do any of you have experience with Ultimate support stands? Specifically the MS-90/36B?

I'm also considering making my own stands but the pvc pipe wood base and a long thread in the center approach doesn't inspire confidence in my mind especially with the added height nearfield requires.

So if i would diy it's going to be fully made from mdf and leadshot or sand.

    What do you guys think?

Haven't seen those, but I've got some stands along the same lines with similar dimensions. In all honesty, they make me nervous. I'm always afraid of knocking the speakers off or tipping the whole thing over. The trick is keeping them in a location with no traffic and especially running kids and pets. Sound-wise, I do really like the results. I'm more of a DIY guy, but in this case I think the commercial version is better, especially if your time is worth more than say, a nickel an hour.

I wouldn't bother with diy, just pick up some.. those pro-audio style ultimate support stands are probably fine

Yeah my woodworking skills are hit or miss. And i want absolute stability and decoupling, cheaping out on something that holds up one of my most expensive audio components doesn't seem sensible.

They don't seem to be available in the EU and max height is 24" which is not gonna be enough in nearfield. I used to have custom ones from Liedtke metalldesign but i sold them, stupid stupid stupid.

I'm looking for affordable multichannel power amps for biamping. Bass speakers are Eminence Deltalite 2515, Widebanders are Fostex 108EZ crossed at 300 Hz.
Anyone got expereinece with these models or can name alternatives?
