That may not be an upgrade for you, try listening to both if you can. I ended up going in the opposite direction.

 

i think this post would be best addressed in the all purpose advice thread.

also a modded focal elear has some advantages and some disadvantages vs. a senn hd650. probably you'd want to keep your 650 even if you also acquired a elear, but that's just a guess. check out the elear measurement thread (under headphone measurement section) for more info on elear mods to improve some of its shortcomings.

That's quite interesting ... as the pictures show the cable-package from the full-blown ($5,495) version of the Abyss (headphones are identical in both packages), minus the "man bag" and the box (which I've NEVER used).

 

I didn't even know there was more than one version/package of the Abyss.

I actually quite liked them from the time I auditioned them... except they were so ridiculously uncomfortable

It's become a golden standard of performance for price, particularly because it will scale up and perform even better with higher quality DACs and amps. It's very highly regarded on this forum. There's threads with mods for it as well (such as the KISS mod) if you look around here.

 

Put it this way, there were quite a lot of used deals on Elears from people who were hoping it was a straight upgrade to the HD650.
