Damn ethereum classic is going way way up. And like all cryptos...
Just curiosity: what's the portable record player seen behind Colbert on The Late Show?
Got my 2nd Pfizer shot just before!
Seeing EHR updated by the nurse, quickly thought of which tables and fields the program was pulling from. lol.
Pi2AES -> Gungnir MultibitA2 -> Sunrise V8 MK IV -> Anthony Gallo Reference AV
Never been one to use supra-aural headphones but designing one has been a treat. Excited for new frontiers. Proto next week!
Sounds awesome. Looking forward to seeing more details soon.
Btw any plan on free-space hanging style such as K1000 or SR1a? Evan bass + Perfect open baffle will be a wonderful combo I believe..
ETA supra is about halfway between a conventional supra and an open baffle earspeaker. That's all I'll say for now.
just say Nyet! to chi-fi
not me, but I feel for others spending money on products that offer no return. I doubt any of these hot DACs coming out of China are much better than the $99 helm bolt dongle, if at all
Helm Bolt Dongle- I learn something every day. K4rstar, what would be on your short list for good usb (no add on to fix) dac under $500 new or used. May be downsizing my Prism.
not sure, my main DAC is SPDIF only so I use a converter for USB. I don't really think the desktop sized stuff is going to be better than the helm bolt other than I/O really. maybe keep an eye on reviews for the new geshelli DAC.
Got the J&J jab yesterday. Feel like crap today. Yay !
Make sure you stay hydrated.
At least you know it’s working. I felt like crap for a couple of days but was worth it.
Feel a bit better today ! Lots of sleeping helps.
Unpleasant news. A housemate was diagnosed with COVID I was quarantined with him. So far, neither he nor I have any signs of the disease.
Sorry to hear that, hopefully you managed to avoid it.
Well piss, this is unfortunate indeed. Hope you and the family, as well as everyone you're with, all keep safe. Fingers crossed it's an easy few days.
Hope everything is fine. About the boredom... YouTube can be helpful.
Haha why does clicking the site title open up the PayPal app for me sometimes? Is this a suggestive thing?
The carver c-4000 has some of the most bullshit words on it. "Sonic holography - autocorrelation preamplifier" and more...
Carver was very clever with marketing speak, which is akin to sales bullshit.
The first “high end” system I ever heard had a Carver Sonic Holography preamp in it (C-1 or ‘2 maybe?) . It was impressive but I smoked a lot of pot back then. I often wondered what my reaction would be to hear it today, but those old Carver Preamps still sell for too much for me to experiment.
I had a carver preamp as well i got in a trade on craigslist. Sounded good to me but didnt do any critical listening on it, big JBL PA speakers, and i had the same issue as you
This guy is insane! https://youtu.be/SK-9yfvT1ds
Oh yay, even I could get off on that! I love the "bat stuff" tweeter! In fact, my rather sad hearing could drop the two smaller horns. And probably still love what I can hear from the other two.
I've only heard one real-horn (ex-cinema stuff) system. Unlike Joe's, it was based on low-power amplification. And it was superb.
ORFAS at it's best. That is one crazy system. Field coils and 1000V plate tube amps and all.
He's lucky, though. Imagine planning an audio system for forty years only to find that you can't actually hear that much of it. Oh, ok, I know, plenty of old guys pretend. Which, in a way, is more sad.
May need a serious closed back pair for the post Covid. Esx900 seems a nice heads-up starting point.
The loaner review will be written as a viewpoint of such a potential shopper. Things pushed myself to vs pulled from the purchase.
Listened to Mahler's 9th last night. Listening to Shostakovich's Mahler inspired 4th tonight. Perhaps Mahler did in fact invent Jazz...
No, that was Beethoven... ;-)
Beethoven invented /rock/ ! :)
A classical music appreciation/history series that I watched mentioned that, pre-electronics, Mahler was as big and as loud as it gets.
I'm back on Facebook...who wants to Friend me? Also...we need to all go on Zoom and do mukbang together. How about ten taco hells?
That would mean that *I* would have to go back on FB. Mmmmmm, no thanks!
You're a great friend here, isn't that enough?
I have 20 people told me they miss me on facebook...all IRL friends and co-workers who told me I'm fat. I spread the fat...and feel the fat...be the fat.
They like the mythical digital you, where you are handsome, gentlemanly, sober, and insightful. IRL, well.... ;) :)
finally got my shanling m6! wow this thing sounds amazing balanced. android 7.1 is wonky and sluggish, but the sound is worth it i guess…
And that is why I have issues with Android DAPs.
Try a full format and reset. It helped mine.
My coworker is looking for headphones. Budget is $200. For open back I suggested HD6XX, but I know those won’t sound their best without amp
Yes. AD900 sounded fine unamped. But the AT headband doesn't work for everyone.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think the AD900 might be a good for him.
The AD900 was my first serious headphone. Liked it very much. Got on well with the wings too: very comfortable. Several times, forgot I was wearing it and got brought up sharp by the cable.
Recs for Frequency Analyzer app for Android, free is best. I have used Audizer but it has a built in bump at 7khz.
Audizr also smooths the low octaves too much. Tried Spectroid? Free, good variety of settings.
thanks, I will give it a go.
Just got the 3M x5a ear muffs and holy shit!, I didn't expect them so smoke every ANC on the planet, and they do it naturally too!.
Wearing earplugs/headphones while driving:
I use my CIEM on flights. During the cabin pressurization it helps prevent my eardrums from popping. I have a bunch of ANC stuff that I went ahead and sold off since I preferred CIEM when traveling.
On that weird pressure effect of ANC : https://www.soundstagesolo.com/index.php/features/178-eardrum-suck-the-mystery-solved
For anyone interested it seems 3DMark is on sale for $2 on Steam. Also the whole .hack//G.U. quadrilogy's on sale for under $7
Ugh - Have been waking up between 2-4AM every time I fall asleep before 10PM recently.
@EagleWings - That's rough. Hope it passes for you. I normally just browse random internet, work, or sometimes PC games before going back to bed.
Thank you. I hope it passes for you too. I've had this for more than a decade now, so I've learnt to live with it by going to bed after 12. I'll probably visit a sleep clinic at some point.
@penguins, I second @EagleWings' idea of doing a sleep study guided by a doctor in a sleep clinic. Most people moderately benefit from it. And for a smaller subset, the improvements are genuinely *life-changing*—so why haven't I done it yet?!
