I'm not a particular fan of the Utopia - it's great but just not quite for me, inc. from my Stratus - but I always fondly recall hearing it anew from my buddy's 3F. One of those beautiful, clear, rich, sparkly sounds that stays with you.

    Holy shit you were right.

Linear phase done properly is just another beast. For multidriver systems the difference is night and day, it's absurd. A completely different speaker, makes lr crossovers without phase correction almost unlistenable. I'm using brickwall crossovers with ringing at -90db, and iir for bass correction. Amazing stuff. Thanks!

Yes! 100% true minimum phase speaker! A good coaxial with phase compensation like what you did with kefs, or something like my setup that also destroys any thd and imd at the cost of complexity.

I'll reproduce your kef setup for another room, and do this phase treatment to all my other speakers. Once you go true minimum phase, no going back from that.

Also, I was thinking along the lines of, maybe 8th orger iir is too much, I'll try it with 2nd and 4th orders too. But I'm just blown away anyway

Short update. Tried it with 2, 4 and 8th orders.

2nd is the best sounding with least fatigue, but it's a marginal improvement. Fir is a galaxy wide difference.

Checked my source (Yggdrasil) just to make sure no issues and it works fine with other amps.

No signal coming from the pre-outs either.

      Any advice?

I will say the gain switch has always been a bit of an issue trying to get it to go into low gain correctly (usually have to fiddle with the switch just a bit to get the channels to equalize). Other than that, no issues. The amp made no noise or smoke either.

Hmm, this appears to have worked! As the rep suggested, it made a god-almighty crackle in the left driver, but it does seem to have unstuck, and sounds like it's back in action. No clue whether this would've degraded the driver. Hopefully, the LCD-4 drivers can take a bit of abuse.

Back to running them with the Phonitor SE, a surprisingly good match, and the internal DAC in my iFi Neo Stream, which I don't care for, as I feel it sounds insipid. But I might try upsampling through HQP and see if that helps anything.

Unsurprisingly, it comes down to synergy and taste. So nothing revelatory to say in a status update.

However, this may be the best implementation of the ESS stuff I've heard. The shrill and harsh highs I thought were emblematic of these chips are simply not here (yes, @purr1n had already told me not all ESS implementations sound the same, now I have experience).
