I just modified my preamp to take 6BY5 rectifier tubes.
There is supposed to be a modest but evident bump in sound quality over the 6X5 and Bendix 5852 tubes I have been using. I can still use those tubes with the mod. I have a couple of 1950’s NOS Sylvania 6BY5G tubes arriving Thursday.
Mobile layout seems to have changed - no 'Alerts' in top navbar anymore. Anyone else seeing this?
Chrome for me. Desktop version (on Chrome/Android) is fine, mobile not.
Chrome or Safari?
Chrome, as above.
BWC IEM edition is coming soon. Audio Technica 15.4mm dynamic in ear. https://www.audio-technica.co.jp/atj/show_model.php?modelId=3057
Sony's EX1000 16mm driver has a buddy
Earbuds though. Eww.
When musicians live next to each other: https://bit.ly/2Rt5Ops
Overly philosophical question: How much more/less would you enjoy this hobby if you couldn't share/discuss it with anyone else?
After a few glasses of Scotch, about the same, more, or less.
Once you find someone else with the same interest and you introduce each other to all kinds of music, the audio hobby does get more fun.
Just watched "Burn!" from 1969. Interesting movie, and in many ways similar to Apocalypse Now/Heart of Darkness.
Perhaps of some interest: https://www.john-a-harper.com/tubes201/ http://www.johnhearfield.com/WSA/Valve.htm
Link 1 was fascinating.
Looking into further reading, the Beck book from 1953 is now a print of demand from Cambridge U Press, and Valley can be had print-on-demand, leather-bound from India for 40 bucks with free shipping. What a brave new world we live in.
Today I read somewhere that class A was the sex cuz no crossover distortion. Note the operating region of a device is approximately linear.
So no, there is still distortion. Particularly compression can occur. So even in the absence of cross over distortion, the system can be made more linear with some negative feedback.
Past the operating region, shit will hit the fan though.
My Sshiit Eitr stops working after a while and I have to unplug and replug the USB. Any ideas on why/how to fix?
Is it caused by static discharge, possibly even traveling through other components and cables?
Do you do all those USB power tricks mentioned on the Schiit site?
Ima noob, it's ok you can point it out. I don't mind.
Packing with styrofoam peanuts in the winter should be considered an act of terror. A million static bits of frickin styrofoam plague
Styrofoam peanuts are the Debil!
Those things are ecologically disgusting to begin with...it's like insult to injury.
Looks like I'll be in Austin for the summer interning at Apple :D
(Christian Bale voice) Good for you!
Nice, have fun!
Back in Canada and seeking employment. When are we going to finally have a Vancouver meetup?
Test-drove the new Acura RDX and was surprised with the sound system. It has good-quality tweeters, mid drivers and a decent sub.
I wish Honda would put these systems in their vehicles: Honda stock systems are gutless.
Siemens NOS E88CC contender for 'One tube to rule them all'. Really make my HD-6xx come alive (for the first time)
Never really liked the E8XCC family of tubes, even their best variants. 6SN7 is superior to my ears, 6N1P as well. One tube to rule them all is ECC40 IMO, cheap as chips and packs a punch.
Shh, they're expensive enough as it is...
Those old Siemens tubes can sound amazing. The precision makes you want to listen more...
Just applied for an internship at Bose. Would be an interesting internship.
Finally, an opportunity to destroy their speaker division from the inside (their headphone division can be spared I guess)
They do more than just audio.
Almost got swindled in a Genny 8351 deal, bought Neummy KH310's instead.
congrats! They’re amazing; maybe my favorite speakers. Maybe
I was torn between this and the Type30 HEDDs. Figured that I don't need the port, as I'm crossing it to subs at 80Hz. Also I'm a sucker for dome mids.
Also the soft dome tweeter doesn’t have any AMT weirdness or off-timbre either.
My Fenix (watch) has BT audio so I bought a BT headset for running. This is radical convenience! Roll on future.
Feel like Tidal is cheating you? You’re not the only one. https://bit.ly/2FoS7Bi
Their software is acting strange. Even when playing album cued tracks shuffle kicks in. I might only keep it for new album releases and then go back to making my own play lists like the old days.
In talking to non-Audio friends work, I was surprised how many were unfamiliar with Tidal.
Just watched Apocalypse Now. Good movie, intense. Stays surprisingly true to Heart of Darkness.
Amazing film; amazing music. Check out the list of musicians in the credits. I've never read Heart of Darkness, but have read many of Conrad's other novels. I agree that film is pure, concentrated Conrad all the way through
I read heart of Darkness in high school, didn't really like it, too long and wordy, but I liked the idea. I'm surprised how well a movie based in Vietnam could stick to the original plot of the book though. Everything happened almost exactly the same way, with some added bits (pretty sure Conrad never wrote about surfing).
I don't think there were any helicopters either! :)
