    Original post from @Rthomas:

    Hi Guys,

(Mods please delete this thread if inappropriate)

I had seen Marvey's posting about the possibility of using SBAF funds for Non - USA loaner programs as long as one of us was willing to get things organized.

I would like the UK SBAFs to get a chance to listen to the new ZMF Eikon. If we can get 5 to 10 Friends interested I hope we can arrange something.

My reasons for choosing the Eikon are as follows:

    1. No chance of auditioning in the UK. Other contenders in this price range such as the Elear and Edition X can be purchased and returned if required easily. A blind purchase of an Eikon would lead to a $300 to $500 loss on resale as ZMF is relatively unknown especially outside the USA.

    2. Most of us would agree that Zach's tuning is pretty good and this headphone is especially promising as he is no longer limited by the T50rp driver. This is supposedly also Zach's most neutral offering...

    Anybody else interested?

In case there isn't enough interest in the UK alone, I think many Canadians would also be interested in an Eikon loaner as well, if there's any interest in expanding this into an international loaner. Judging from the Canada SBAF thread, there are quite a few SBAFers living in the Metro Vancouver area.

Zach's 25% restocking fee is understandable given the expenses that small businesses incur as a result of customer returns, but like @Rthomas said, it makes auditioning ZMF headphones risky and financially impractical.

I'd love to try ZMF's offerings, but I don't want to lose $300+ to potential customs / restocking fees and resale / currency conversion losses in order to do so. I'm sure others are in the same boat.

I'd be interested in checking out the Eikon if we get enough interest. As you say, not an inexpensive endeavour to do it oneself. I'd be happy to chip in with a modest SBAF donation to help facilitate.

As suggested by @sphinxvc, I will try and be the proxy from there on.

Since we have Brits and US/Canadian people interested, can you guys please post your locations (countries) to see how to organizing this prior to getting the ball rolling?

    Thanks :)

Don't hesitate to PM me for any question.

If, by any chance, the UK Loaner could be EU loaner, count me in . I definitely appreciate ZMF headphones. ;)

I know I'm not yet a friend on SBAF, but I arrange tours on head-Fi and the Danish equivalent site.

I would also if possible like to test them out if a European tour is possible.

If it's going through France then count me in. My OTL amp should be finished by then.

@MrButchi If I'm allowed to be part of a ZMF Eikon Europe loaner tour I'd be very interested as well.

I believe @sorrodje can vouch for me? My trader feedback on HF is flawless too.

    Cheers.

Noted guys. Currently sorting things out with @Marvey and @zerodeefex to see how to get our hands on it.

Ok, on with the organizing since we're likely to acquire an Eikon with SBAF funds.

I need quick answers : do you guys have a specific preference for Cherry or Padauk wood?

Here is what Zack has to say on the matter:
"Because the cups are made of solid wood the weight will vary slightly, but generally the weight will be as listed below:
    Cherry: 490-530 grams
    Padauk: 550-600 grams

Cherry, as a lighter wood will have more decay and Padauk will be a touch “faster” with more immediate sound. The changes are subtle, but noticeable while A/Bing.
    "

Right now, contemplating a 1/4 termination. Inform me if you're XLR only termination.

Also, it is likely that there will be custom fees. The first recipient HAS to accept to deal with those (currently determining how we sort it out after).

I would prefer the more expensive Padauk wood, as it seems to be the better sounding one.

EDIT: Can we get it 4 pin XLR terminated? You can always use an adapter for SE, but not the other way around.
(Maybe we can include an adapter with the loaner? I have one that I don't need.)

If the Eikon will eventually be returning to the 'States, we may be able to import under an appropriate code where we can claim back the duties on return. My personal preference would be Paduak and XLR, but obviously we should go with the majority.
