I can't say much more than what's already been said, but here are some thoughts:

    - Jot sounds exciting and satisfying. Minor quibbles with a shouty upper midrange, and slightly bright sounding treble. The shoutyness is probably more of an issue for me than the treble, but I'm also using 650's with mods. Other headphones with more revealing treble may have more trouble with the enlightened treble.

    - Jot sounds sophisticated. I would have a tough time thinking of any amps at its price point, or even in the <$800 range that offer the same sophistication. I believe this comes from its overall clarity, speedy presentation, and power.

I find that Jot can suffer in a couple of areas. The first huge caveat would be with using a good source. Feed Jot crap, and you'll hear the crap. Jot won't smooth, thicken, or layer. Jot is also not a laid back amp, nor is it rolled off.

Secondly, Jot is not the Black Widow. It does not have the layering, depth and width of more pricier amps, and if Schiit creates a Jot 2, these are the main areas that I think could use some attention. How the BW achieves this is beyond me, but I personally found BW overly warm and actually prefer Jot. (Keep in mind that I listen with the 650's).

This is not to say that Jot is flat sounding, to my ears. I do understand the criticism about having less depth and width than other amps, however Jot does something magical with attack and decay, which makes it far less flat sounding than say the MicroZOTL. I also don't find Jot overly dry... it has a slickness to it; a velvet midrange. It's texture is certainly on the lighter side in comparison to tube gear, but some people may prefer it's straight forward approach.

I'm waiting for Gungnir Multibit to be 100% warmed up, then I'll post some more thoughts next week. I will also give some thoughts on feeding Jot from an analog source. So far, I would say that Jot could benefit from a slightly warmer sounding cartridge. Jot also pushes surface noise into your face, which is hella unpleasant. Clean vinyl + warmer cartridge + Jot may be key.

Possibly the jotenheim has so little sound of its own that what is really being heard is the source (DAC or analog) and headphone pairing.

This has been reminding me of the controversy over the sound (or lack of a sound) of the original Audio Research SP-9 preamplifier.

(But you probably would have to be in the oldest 1% here to remember that.) :(

That's what I was thinking too, but there is also a potential fatiguing factor with the Jot too. Which might be a reflection of what headphone is being paired with it. Headphones often commented on being fatiguing (HD800, T1) will be so on the Jot...

I just got mine in today, listening from the trendy new Modi Multibit -> jot -> HD650 rig. Replaced a magni2uber.

I was lowkey still kind of skeptical that an amp would make a noteworthy difference, but I'm A/Bing these currently and am willing to eat my words

    I remember that!
I've been spending lots of time w/ the Jotunheim at home in the Sonic Satori Personal Audio Lab and I've been eager to share my thoughts on it in the Impressions thread here. But FYI (call this a Disclaimer): I worked on SchiitShow2 w/ Team Schiit - handling their social media (e-vites, all that). So nobody tries to play - "Oh he was on the team for this one so if course he digs it!" Honestly, since I've only really loved the Vali - I didn't know what to expect. But I've been lovin this damn thing!!

I want to see that too- but fear that it's the path to the Dark Side (literally). I'd want a black DAC to go with it, and from there, where would it end?

The black on silver is a really nice contrast. My Lyr 2 I had for a short while was silver and looked really nice atop my black Bifrost. Though I can confirm you will still be drawn to impulse buying black schiit from then on out. ;)

Brushed silver metal has always been the absolute epitome of design to me, so I'm pretty happy with the OG colorway.

Totally not a comment related to the sound, but Jesus Christ this volume knob is like a dream come true after using a magni 2 uber for so long. Really nice having options other than "as quiet as you can get without channel imbalance" or "as loud as you can listen to comfortably"

The Modi MB is a very good match for the amp. Tonally, they just work very well together. Leave both of them at all times.

They've been great so far. Doubly great when you consider the questionable heater in my poverty college housing, their added benefit as a hand-warmer definitely helps keep my hands warm enough to write

Also really liking the Jotun because I no longer feel the need to quarter mod my 650s now that I have it, and I'm really trying to do as much as I can to avoid enabling my modding OCD.
