Hi Lionel. Good to see you on here. I may be able to make the HiFi News show, although the tickets are quite pricey. Have you been before? Is it a good'un?

It's mostly 2 channel stuff with a small headphone section. Last year was really good but it all depends on what you are after. You can see a description of the rooms and systems demoed on Hifi News website in the Show subsection. I'm still browsing through it to decide if I will attend this year. I am mostly interested in the low end stuff which is usually not covered well at shows. I am pretty tired of demos with six-figure systems that are only marginally better than mid-priced rigs (and sometimes they actually sound worse).

I looked more carefully into the description of the rooms for the Hifi News show and most of them are similar to what was demoed last year. The only thing of interest to me would be to listen to the Aqua / Crayon / Boenicke system, so I think I'll pass for this year. Still up for local headphone meets though.

I have to say, a single-ended Jotunheim would spoil a lot of the fun. All of my headphones sound so much more lively driven balanced out of the Jot. The SE out is very good, but the speed and facist drive control of this amp really only comes into its own when you go balanced.

You don't need a balanced source, SE in works very well, but driving the headphones balanced? Well worth the effort- you can make a cheap pair of HD650 sing.

I agree but my constraint is the form factor so single-ended is a necessary compromise to fit the circuit in the modi / magni box. That's also the way to reduce costs to get a pricing more inline with the modi / magni range. From what I heard, the SE Jotunheim is better than Magni (more details without corresponding treble harshness). Let's put it this way: there is Modi MB atop Modi / Modi Uber, so it would make sense to have Magni Pivot Point atop Magni / Magni Uber.

    Hi,
I'm possibly typing this in the wrong place!? I live in the UK.... Maidenhead, Berkshire. It would be good to meet up with other UK SBAF members at some time.... a mini meet possibly?
    I can travel to wherever.
    Thanks, Headcase888

Mini meets are much better than the trade shows which are way too crowded and noisy.....

Weclome to SBAF! Hopefully we can arrange something.

Yep, welcome to SBAF. Hope you can make the meet in April. Would be fun to have a mini meet at some point before then.

    Hi Mark,
Yes, I know... it is nearly June 2019 and I disappeared PMwise in 2016.
Sorry I faded out then. Are you guys planning to meet up anywhere in the near future ? I'm still in Maidenhead.
I am currently driving myself bonkers, thinking whether I want to afford the RAAL SR1A... plus a power amp or amps... etc. etc. Don't think RAAL has a UK distributor as yet?
Best regards, Patrick (Headcase88).. appropriate u/n methinks... lol.
