Thinking about the bracelet on the Breguet Marine 5817, would I be mistaken to think about the Marine GMT 5857?

It's 42mm and actually fits the bracelet (not sure about my wrist). It's nice, but the dial in a dial is a little funny.

P.S. October 27th is the 200th anniversary of A.L. Breguet's appointment as the chronometer maker for the Royal French Navy.

Visually I prefer the bracelet on the 5817, over the strap. It helps offset the business of the dial in dial complication. If you're looking for a steel bracelet on a Breguet, the more complicated watches in their line look better this way in my opinion.

I agree, my head says the complication is unnecessary, but on that steel bracelet, my eyes say wow...

I' have a pretty simple Tissot PRC-200. Effective and quite nice all round. Large watches don't work on my wrist.

Nice Tissot. The Swiss themselves seem to prefer Tissot for their own watches.

Stopped over at the Breguet boutique in NYC...

Here's the Marine GMT 5857 up close

This last one is cheating a little because the simpler 5Marine 817 is not catching the light in the same way as the Marine 5857 GMT is.

So, a few weeks back there was the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève Awards (arguably the most important awards in the watch industry).

    Here's what won for 2015:

    The big winner was:

In the sport watch category, the Tudor Pelagos won. I'm posting a picture because I like this watch. It's what the Submariner used to be. Plus, with a new in-house movement and 70-hour power reserve, it's got a better movement.

I've seen it in person and it's nice. Titanium bracelet, too.

The Tudor is a gorgeous watch with great heritage. I know some hard-use folks who wear them and Tudor's can take a beating.

I'm not much of a fan of tourbillions from a static visual standpoint. I appreciate their engineering complexity and history, though I prefer the joy of looking at the full movement through a display caseback.

The cheap Sea-Gull M17 available now on Massdrop is very nice--and I usually dislike complications. My queen cat says it's "very Capricorn." Whatever that means, it must be something good.

Here is a stock photo of my IWC Portuguese chronograph:

In the IWC shop now for a tuneup and new band which is costing me a small fortune and interfering with potential headphone purchases.

Hmm, I think I know what she means, even though I'm not sure if I can explain it!

I think I'd end up just staring at the tourbillion all day if I had one. A person has to know their limits!

Just have this little Maurice Lacroix, I like that their products are fully Swiss-made including the movement which isn't just an import. (Though I put a metal band on it so I feel better about taking it to the beach and it's sure a lot easier to take it off and put it on all the time)

    I'm too lazy for a self-winding or automatic :p

That is a beautiful watch! Very nice and worth having re-oiled!

Meanwhile, I'm thinking about the Breguet 5857 GMT above and the F.P. Journe with blue mother of pearl shown earlier in the thread looks like it's coming in.

Also, I need a travel watch that if, heaven forbid, it got lost/wrecked/stolen, I wouldn't be that put out...
Something automatic, with a date function and GMT

To be honest, after almost getting shot to death, I'm a little paranoid about travel.

    Maybe a Seiko GMT?

By the way, I think this is a very pretty watch:

See? So pretty. I mean, I'm not buying it, but if one of you bought it, I would stare at it if we had lunch. It'd be a little creepy, probably.

    Kunlun,

I'd prefer the Seiko Sumo SBDC, recently on Massdrop (no GMT though).

Unrelated: JLC just came out with an updated Geophysic in stainless, rose, and platinum.

PS I like the hands on that VC you posted.

That's a nice Seiko! The big bezel and lugs to dial ratio is like a Rolex on steroids. Rolex is actually taking a step away from that look, but the Seiko pulls it off.

The new JLC Geophysic is very understated. JLC really seems to have their design down. They have a new "tie-fighter" balance wheel, which is cool, too. Not sure how I feel about the dead-seconds, though.

Kunlun, also consider a Citizen Eco-drive for a travel watch. The movements are light powered, keep decent time, and take a beating well. I've had a nighthawk model for about eight years and it has served me well. And since it has a perpetual calendar function, I've only had to move between regular and LTM to account for Daylight Savings.

My first serious watch. A bit heavy but I like it.

I have the model with white numbers on a black background. The analogue VX42.

Good call, I'll check it out!

Post a pic sometime, I'd like to see it!

I find heaviness lends a certain something ("mass"?) to a watch. It feels more well-built, somehow.
