Yeah maybe, lately i have been changing my mind every couple of days.

Btw prices seem steep, but they will be cheaper from something like Thomann ofc.
Also you'd need their GLM kit which is another €450...

Fwiw I don't like the direction Genelec took with the ADC-->DAC-->amp philosophy. It doesn't suite hi-fi enthusiasts.
It's super convenient to setup the DSP speakers and feed them AES, but then the result is what you are limited with for good.
Analog Genelecs scale noticeably with source, the dsp ones in theory shouldn't. The dacs inside while good are far from Yggdrasil level.

Yeah i still have half a mind to pickup a pair of Quested S7R or S8R's and call it a day, couldn't live with the Genelec tweeter on the 8040.

Yup, happy with my 8030s for that very reason. And class D.

That said, I know that the studio line aren't pandering to enthusiasts, and have a different set of use-cases to mine. In fact the new lines come as a relief, as there's no better place to be (for me) than the 8030/7050 combo. It's not often you see the next-gen tech and go "Oh, cool - that's not for me".

Would anyone here be interested in a pair of 1030's? (predecessor to the 8040)
I'm considering some upgrades but need to free up cash first. These also come with an official padded carrying bag made specifically for them.

p.s. I'm in Canada, but am willing to ship over the border

Do they happen to weigh 40 kilos per piece?

    Those 1038's are more like 60kg :p

Nah, actually considering some ATC SCM20's that a guy is selling locally. They roll off pretty early (but gently since it's sealed), but man that midrange definition is great. I'll hopefully audition again tomorrow and see if I can live with the rolloff, as I don't really want to add a sub.

That ATC midrange is something i want to hear but it also scares me for reasons.

Maybe the rolloff will be less noticeable in your setup, perhaps you can talk the seller into a home audition? Doesn't hurt to ask...

Well, quite. Up till then, at least, audiophiles were not their market, not their philosophy.

I wouldn't mind... and some years ago I was impressed by a demo of their room-correction system in an audio-unfriendly hotel environment. But, unless one has different settings for sitting in different chairs, etc etc (Yes, ISTR one can. Maybe this is a system for the obsessive compulsive. And aren't all serious audiophiles a bit OCD?) it seems to me that... you do it once.

Those are some bona fide near fields you got there. ATC's used to get bad rep for being bright, but now their tweeters are pretty on-point.

I'm building two subwoofed speaker stands.

    subbagge.png

Figured that regular stands just stand there and use up space. And I'm lacking a bit of that bottom octave. Each box weighs north of 50kg, has two SB acoustics 12"ers with port tuning around 24Hz.

Also I'm low key looking to sell my Equators.

I do like the "liveliness" that the Genelecs bring however. The ATC's seem more accurate, but a little bit dry. It's almost like they have inverted FR's; with the Genelecs being sorta smiley faced, and the ATC's sorta frowny faced. The most revealing song for me was Royals by Lorde, where the drums seemed to take actual rounded shape, rather than merely thump.

I'm suuuuper tempted on the ATC's right now, but gotta weigh how much cash I'm willing to throw at it.

I've been noticing getting fatigued listening to GO2A SE balanced out to the Genelecs. I realized I could use my iematch and hooked up my Chord Mojo this weekend. What a difference!

I'd been trying to EQ out the glare with some joy but this was an obvious change for the better. And quite surprising as I prefer the GO2A SE over Mojo with the Andros.

Really? My experience with the iematch (from the ican pro) was a giant wtf.

No, iematch is only relevant insofar as it is converting the GO2A TRRS to stereo TRS so that I can use the Mojo. I doubt the OI difference has any effect with the Genelecs.

To summarize, Mojo sounds significantly better than GO2A to my ears.

OK, I've been mucking about with some trial Equalizers and getting some decent results.

I've bought ToneBoosters EQ V3 after looking at the price tags of Equality and Equilibrium, Pro-Q, Waves and so on in the pro world. TB was like $20, which allows me to save presets and is worth it just for that. Equilibrium is super sexy and cool but complete overkill for what I need, and may well open the door to some sort of EQ nervosa on my part...so for now I'm seeing what I can do on the cheaper side.

I also got a trial of SonarWorks, but that needs more gear and outlay which doesn't make sense right now given my rather basic/crude approach.

Anyway, TB beats the crap out of the FB2K EQ. Just adding a 3db odd bump broadly to the mids and tanking a bit of treble hotness up top makes all the difference. I'm no longer beholden to the Mojo to warm up the Gennies.

Now I realize I have a crapload to learn about EQ and using my ears. I'm sure the simple EQ here makes the pro's cringe :).

I'll revert to the EQ thread for more on the EQ stuff. Just wanted to point out you can 'cure' your bright Genelecs well enough for twenty bucks :).

I've been thinking about buying some 8010a's to replace Audioengine A2's on my computer desk. Casual listening, gaming mostly. The 8010 seems like the only option to get decent sound in such a small box. High WAF is crucial. The A2s just don’t do it for me, not to mention I can’t place my phone on my desk without getting constant feedback. Even with my phone on silent in my pocket, if I get a text or email, the A2s will give a little buzz. Pretty annoying. 8010a at Thomann Music for $220 each. Confident I could get a local price match. Any better options?

In that tiny footprint and price point, I think the Genelecs are one of the best options. There might be a Swan speaker that fits, but those will probably be better in a 2.1 setup. How much wiggle room do you have on size and budget? Any option to go passive if you can add a small amp on the side?

I could up my budget to get the 8020s, but even those are really pushing it in terms of size.

edit - Yeah I could go passive and add a small amp to the side.
