Can someone help me with an issue I am having. I can usually record a network stream like youtube or other media on a webpage by entering the url of the page and using the open network stream menu option set it to convert to wav for example.

The archived bbc stuff does not want to play nice. Any ideas on how to get it to convert which will allow me ot save and playback on my system. FYI setting to play instead of convert does nothing as well.

    thanks for the tip Bengo.

I don't want to stream anything, just save the original file. After digging some more I learned that the url is not a direct url to the media, hence VLC cannot save the file like it can with youtube where it can save a music performance in seconds.

I suppose the only way, other than finding some secret media folder, is to record in real time with Audacity or the like.

    thanks

@bixby Realtime recording is also possible with this app, that's why I suggested it. Similar to Audacity that you mentioned.
Just tried it - unfortunately it seems to save only as mp3 format. You could email the developer to ask for WAV or FLAC, I suppose.

Usually this is what I do to download music or video streams:

    - Use Firefox browser
    - Install this addon called Video Download Helper: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/
    - Go to the URL. Click play, then click on Video Download Helper's button, it'll show you the option to download the file. In your case, it's an MP3 file. On youtube or youtube-like websites, it even gives you the option to download low res, med res, or hi res.

Most of the time this plugin works for me. If it doesn't, I just download another plugin from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ and try it out. This tactic has not failed me...yet.

    Security is overrated.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out. So I looked more closely into it, and it turned out BBC really locked down on their stream. Basically they send out cookies every few seconds to verify the stream, and of course VLC or other video download programs/plugins can't respond to a cookie like a browser does, so downloading BBC's stream is almost impossible to my knowledge. I think you might have to use Audacity or similar programs to record it instead.

And btw, I usually disable plugins when I'm done using them, for security reasons.

I can download & save BBC output using Quicktime on my Mac. I realize you're on Windows but it can work.
