Audio-GD Singularity 19 DAC - Comprehensive Review and Impressions

I believe such a pairing should always be kept on hand at meets, as an obvious and incontrovertible "proof" for disbelievers that DACs and amps can and do make an audible difference, whichever the manufacturer's published specs. You may even organize fun blind sessions, where you switch from say Yggdrasil & Ragnarok to something like S19 & Wells. Let's see if people can identify the worst sounding stuff with perfect accuracy...

 

Should bring an O2 so you can show how bad it sounds with maximum transparency to the denier crowd. /s

 

A volume matched setup behind a cover or something with just cable extenders poking out would be perfect. People could go back and forth and see which one was worse. There could even be a poll and the answer would be revealed at the end of the meet. This would eliminate as much bias as possible.

 

I like this. It's not product-shaming for shames sake at that point.

 

Bad examples are instructive, with far more value to those seeking enlightenment, than simply blowing shit up.

On a less controversial (and more relevant) topic: where is the S19 loaner now? I recall @Torq offered to take it for a one-way scuba trip, for example, and I think there were other suggestions, maybe a poll is needed?

 

Someone else should sell it. I think everyone knows that is the until we shit all over. Not saying we should be dishonest about what we're selling, but... You know.

 

actually @Marvey and I were throwing around the possibility of a geocaching adventure, the first to find the golden ticket wins the opportunity to buy the S-19 for like $29.99 or something (!!!) LOL

 

Sell it on eBay. People will buy anything on eBay. Seriously. If I have something that doesn't sell for a month, I list it on eBay and it's usually gone within the week unless I price it high and slowly lower it until it sells.

 

It's very telling, isn't it? With all the ra-ra and hype they were putting behind it. Yet here one is, for 1/3rd of what it'd cost them to buy new. And it just sits there, week after week, it's price slowly collapsing - like a flan in a cupboard. So much for the AGD faithful!

Not as a DAC.

Maybe as a door-stop. Or a planter.

I'd say maybe for $100/hour. But thinking about that, it'd still amount to $100/month ... because an hour a month is as much as I could stand.

 

I would practice my non-existent soldering skills on it. Maybe if I blew a few things it would sound better?! Can't sound worse from the look of things.
