Yes. Very cool and very expensive and all analog. I think there was more than one version.[IMG]

    I suddenly feel... under-knobbed.

I used to own its little brother. I bought it from Mark Levinson a long time ago, but sold it:

I think Perot is using the Loki as intended. If one has a frequency response related problem with a recording/mastering or one's sound system, try the knobs on the Loki and see if the enjoyment of the music is improved.

The Loki is not intended to do what digital eq does nor anything else beyond what it is designed to do. IMO, it is a reasonably priced, transparent (according to this), bypassable, well thought out version of these:

There seem to be a lot of pro audio company's making good EQs for studios, most of it designed to be rackmounted.

But what are the very high quality EQs of yesteryear that are affordable (less than $1000) these days? Are the wide range slider types generally viewed as inferior (and overkill for tweakability)?

With so many bands, all that extra circuitry inline is not good for clarity etc. The question is whether the finer control is really worth the compromise. I would prefer a good parametric EQ with fewer bands (and per-band bypass, so you are not forced to use what you do not need) over something like this.

These Japanese sliders are ''sex on a stick'', literally. That's why some DJ-s look so enthusiastic behind the deck.

Magni 3 and Loki due today. Damn it! I should have ordered some PYST cables. This could get a little messy.

Received my Loki today and have been putting it through it's paces. I began my audio journey in the 1980's (with lots of 1970's gear around) so equalizers/tone controls are not foreign to me. I'm finding the use cases for it to be kind of what I expected. 80% of my recordings (my collection is very broad but slanted to Classical/Jazz) probably don't need it and will likely be set on bypass. However, I am finding Loki to be beneficial in many "historical" performances which are sonically compromised from the beginning. Some sweetening/help from Loki allows me to enjoy great performances like Furtwangler 1940's stuff (for example) even more. Not going to make crap recordings sound good but allows me to tailor the suckitude to be more in line with my preferences. I think many will use Loki as a plaything for the first few weeks but over time will likely find it is an audio tool for particular problems rather than a general use gadget. Still, for $150 it's a useful tool to have at your disposal and when you need to make a tonal adjustments Loki does so with all the resolution/clarity you would ask for. Don't think of using a sw version with Loki now available. Editing to say about 90% of listening is via 2 channel speakers rather than headphones.

I'm to lazy to dial it in for a particular recording, but I'd use it to compensate for minor shortcomings of my alternate headphones. My primary cans have a symmetry with the rest of the gear which I don't feel needs messed with.

Had a lot of fun with the "Loki: Mini".

Given that it is entirely transparent in bypass mode, I could easily see chaining several of these - each turned for a specific headphone, and swapping them in/out via their bypass-switches as needed. Saves messing around with recording values for each headphone.

Glad to hear. How was transparency with the EQ switched in? Speakers, headphones or both? HD800 in particular. Sorry for all the questions. I have to wait until Tuesday night.

is it entirely transparent in bypass mode?
when its activated but all settings set to flat, how transparent is it?

anyone tried the loki with the hd800? can it tame slightly the brightness or the Q of the 8khz filter is too high?

Well the Loki is a fail for me. As in the damn thing doesn't work at all. Knobs turned full left or full right make no difference. The bypass relay does not click when engaged or disengaged. Guess I got a dud. Oh well.

Sounds like it's stuck in bypass mode.

That's a bummer. Luckily Schiit customer service is the best. Pardon my stupid question, but have you contacted tech support yet? I think they have someone available 24/7. Worth a try.
