I hope you'll get one and do a nice comparison to the KEMAR!
Can't those miniDSP guys just send you one? ;)

Two different calibration files, too, one for headphones and one for IEMs. Be interesting to compare/contrast with both types of rig in use here.

    Looking forward to your results!

Can't really do that using companies equipment. Already, sharing measurements of my own gear using that equipment is a little iffy.

How the heck did I miss that the minidsp thing was posted here? I'm late to the party and feel dumb. Just ordered one today after getting word of it. :)

I bought a UMIK-1 a month ago and am more than likely grabbing one of the EARS very soon too. My wallet hurts. Would it maybe worthwhile creating a thread dedicated to the EARS so we can discuss it and develop a sort of "standard" of measurements for it?

There already is, it's in the Headphone Measurements sub forum:

I just came here asking for advice, after more frustration with my own rig. Thanks SBAF.

I have abandoned the usb powered GOV2a, as it not give me as good (clean)decay results on CSD, over a battery powered mojo...
Which in turn, did not give me as accurate (clean) results (in FR also)as the battery powered "ifi micro BL"...
Which I am using now using as my top choice for a battery powered(cleaner) portable dac/amp for my measurement setup (on REW).

Also, I am wondering if the EARS coupler turned out to be preferred in long run over the flat surface solutions here.

I am very doubtful, but it is a value to have two mics.

I have been using ARTA as a signal generator for various DAC testing. I haven't however been able to get the ASIO driver to work for any devices. Every time I select ASIO in ARTA and try to start the signal generator ARTA immediately crashes. I've had this issue on several computers with several DACs. Has anyone successfully used ASIO in ARTA?

What DAC is the ASIO driver for? I don't have that problem with ARTA and my Scarlett 2i2's ASIO driver

I've tried a centrance dacport as well as lh labs geek pulse x infinity. I'm using windows 10.

Never owned either of those. Do they have their own ASIO drivers?

I just tried ASIO4All with my 2i2 and Leckerton UHA-4 and nothing crashed.

    Arta 1.7.1 on W7 Ultimate.

Yes they both have their own ASIO drivers. I haven't tried using ASIO4All as it kind of defeats the purpose of using ASIO. Might be a good test though.
    I'm using ARTA 1.9.1

    Edit:
Just tried ASIO4ALL and it works fine. This makes me think that the issue is that ARTA doesn't like not having any input channels on the DACs, even though I'm only trying to use the generator.

Arrival of a new pair of HD6XX has provided the opportunity to better calibrate my foam wedge-head against known quantities...

FR right with mic calibration applied (solid black curve; dashed curve is source+ADC correction):

Marv's measurement of a pair from the original drop (presumably on his v2 rig):

My FR with no mic calibration:

Note different scales; I'm at home without decent graphics software for scaling/stretching/transparency, but printing and comparing side by side, the uncalibrated version is not too bad a match. Rolls off a bit more below 60 Hz, and is a bit higher from c. 7 kHz upward (where previously I've suspected I've been low).

The mic calibration seems to screw things up, making the curve rougher rather than smoother and introducing artifacts at certain places (the 5k peak in particular has given me trouble in the past).

Conclusion: any future measurements I inflict on you poor souls will be without applying the calibration curve for my mic. Off to listen to my new headphones now :)

That might be it. I checked in the ASIO4ALL config and it shows options for input buffering on devices without any inputs so it's probably giving ARTA fake inputs as well.

For my portable setup ( at work hehe) I have abandoned the ifi Micro BL as it was too large a unit, and for listening it was very dynamic and dark sounding, which I was afraid would skew reaults.

So I now settled on the xdXdu XD-05 with burson opamp upgrade.
It has latest AKM dac and sounds balanced, detailed and delicate.

So I am finally satisfied for my portable setup using a "look-alike" shaped Marvey coupler, for ease of Headphone positioning,
And a foam around the mic (to simulate ear) and a rolled paper circumference area (to simulate partial or absobtions which I feel creatology is too much).
    Here is a pic:

Random experiments. Nothing serious. (Everything is raw with no comp)

NOTE: IMM6 is flush to the silicone ear canal.

    exp2.jpg
    FR IEC.png

NOTE: IEC mic is forcefitted onto the silicone plate, which means the entrance of the canal is 6mm diameter while the chamber inside is 8mm diameter, which will definitely induce fucky results. Plus, the silicone plate is 15mm tall, a good 7mm more than the existing canal simulator, which mean this rig has a reeeaaaally deep canal.
