What do y'all estimate the synergy might be with Lyr 3 and the upcoming Focal Elex? Thinking of trading the Clears for that combo.

EDIT: I recently acquired a modest electrostat setup, and can't really justify keeping the Clear$$, but would like to save for a high value/cost ratio, tubey dynamic setup. Maybe this is it?

Yeah. Other way around. Got back from hike and typed that really quick while I was at FTBC receiving my after-hike reward.

Elex and Lyr 3 would be excellent.

So far, I wouldn't call the Lyr 3 tubey. If you mean tubey sounding like a syrupy BH Crack setup.

I should've clarified - a 'hybrid-tubey' sound, with something like the Vali 2 (which I owned and enjoyed) as the baseline to beat. Lyr 3 seems to check so many boxes...

I had a LYR2 and a Jot. I much prefer the Jot. It’s a lot more versatile with balanced in/out and SE in/out options. If u look for tube characteristics, i.e. holographic voice placement, air and separation, Schiit amps have little in them. Just try BH Crack, DarkVoice etc to get a feel. Jot, however, with the new Multibit DAC, which I hope vastly better than the old DAC module, is a killer product, capable of being a preamp for active monitor and driving headphone SE and balanced and taking balanced or SE sources, while having only one wall wart and no interconnects. It gets my vote for Schiit’s best product.

@zeissiez Mind that Jot's preouts are not very good and will limit the performance of decent active monitors.

I had been using a pair of Yamaha HS7+HS8S sub with an Auralic Vega DAC, until one day I inserted a Jotunheim in between them. There’s slight loss in transparency and details, but in exchange I heard a much forward and solid vocal image, as oppose to a dispersed one. Maybe it had to do with the Jot being forward sounding and an intimate soundstage . I much prefer the Jot in the chain, even with the aforementioned trade off. I wonder if the Saga, as a dedicated preamp, could do a better Job than Jot.

Thank you for this information. Would you say that going to Lyr 3 or Jot would simply be different not necessarily better for non modded HD650. With limited funds a multibit/Gen5 upgrade to my Bifrost would harvest more musical pleasure?

Lyr 3 is better than Jot for HD6xx in almost every way. Jot is flatter sounding, both in dynamics and space. Jot does have better bass articulation and crisper transients, but the difference is small.

As I said, the best amp Schiit has ever made - keeping in mind special use cases for Rag and Valh 2.

I certainly like the Lyr 3. After rolling a few tubes through last night I'm a bit surprised that the tube makes as big of a difference as it does to the sound. As a hybrid, I expected it would affect things less, I suppose.

With that said, the new Tung Sol is decent. Other 6SN7 tubes I tried brought detail and treble out so much it was what I could only call unnatural. The personal favorite tube so far ia a fairly inexpensive Sylvania chrome dome. I have a few more to roll through before i pick one i want to form impressions with, and compare to the new prod Tung Sol.

Hmmm. Is that just speculation at this point? Or perhaps a lesson from Schiit history where patience has been rewarded?

I have a Jot and LSR305s at my workplace. I didn't miss anything except bass which is caused by room acoustics. Then I added a Saga mainly in order to pimp the Jot headamp section.

Of course I also switched the LSR305s from the Jot to the Saga, despite having to let go of the XLR connection. I can't say much about transparency and details, but the sound really opened up, it was noticeable at once. Not a night and day difference, but to me definitely worth the purchase of the Saga.

DAC is a Bifrost Multibit with a Fiio X3ii per SPDIF as a transport.

Maybe I'm confused, but what does any of that have to do with the Lyr3?

You wouldn't even need the Bifrost Multibit. Just get the Lyr 3 + MB.

LyMBr? (Certainly a limber set up).
