I've ran it with all my DACS (MB card, Modi Multibit, Soeris dac1321 and Gungnir Multibit) and it really deserves a nicer DAC. Gungnir Multibit>> Jensen PC-2XR>> Lyr 3 sound pretty amazing.

    AFO.

Why our impressions are different? Most likely due to the fact that I'm simply a Rando in disguise :p

I'll let you know if my thoughts change.

Thanks for your take. Ok, I’ll go for just the amp.

Hey - are you running in high or low gain? Do you notice any differences between the two?

Now that some owners here have had this amp for a few days, are there any traits that you are hearing that are annoying you yet? Examples, dry, repetition, glare, haze, one-note, bloat, etc?

Now I kinda understand your concern. Thought in similar ways before I seriously auditioned various modem tube amps.

Truth is .. most of well-received tubes in sbaf are described as "All the virtues of SS" (many fixed or addressed duller or muddier tubey distortions) + "Something special" (e.g. dynamics, soundstages, ..). So SS/Tube dichotomy may not be useful.

That said, I feel resistant to say Lyr3 is 80% SS + 20% tube. Instead, if you heard Jotenheim and Vali, tonality is more like Vali. Technical-wise more similar with Jotenheim (Lyr 3 is way better than either almost in every criterion though).

Like many mentioned, tube rolling may change sound colors. I dunno. My impressions come from new TS 6SN7GTB.

Agreed with your views. Originally I targeted "randos with stupid questions". Might verse inaccurately. Nevertheless I still maintain that every rando must try to be a smart questioner. Questions must be well defined, well informed (preference, gears, ...), and well researched.

One hypothetical rando question I might like in this thread is

"I didn't like treble glares of Jotenheim when used with hd650. But crack (1.1) wasn't my cup of tea for blahblah reasons. Heard MCTH and tonality was nice. Will Lyr 3 suit my preference? If so, is stock TS tube enough, or any recommendation for cheap tubes?"

This comment that you posted that by the way I had read did not prove anything, only showed that Lyr 3 does not sound as sterile as many tube amplifiers, but also did not say it was not sterile. But I know it has heat, but I want to know how much heat and how much transparency, but it seems that no one here is able to tell me what I want to know.

I chose the poison and it did not tickle me. :piratemug::headbang:

    This.

I am not going to do the research for you. We aren't psychic either, so if you don't spell out what it is you want, chances are you're going to be told to do so (as I did with the Paparazzi kid who is on ignore now) or be ignored completely. As I said, perhaps inelegantly at first, this isn't head-fi and lazy or foolish questions are not suffered gladly.

80% SS + 20% Tube was just an example, but so far your answer was the most convincing and by the time I settle for it until you get more reviews, but what do you mean by Technical-wise? I do not quite understand these terminologies used by audiophiles.

You might not understand, but here it goes (there two kinds of tube sound and two kinds of solid-state sound)

    Ember: 40% shitty-tube, 20% good-tube, 20% bad solid-state, 15% good solid-state
    Vali 2: 20% shitty-tube, 40% good-tube, 20% bad solid-state, 20% good solid-state
    Horizon: 25% shitty-tube, 35% good-tube, 15% bad solid state, 25% good solid-state
    MCTH: 10% shitty-tube, 40% good-tube, 15% bad solid state, 35% good solid-state
    Lyr 3: 50% good-tube, 5% bad-solid-state 45% good solid-state

The honest answer is that you will never comprehend the difference between good and shitty until you experience it yourself. There exists a lot better than Ember. I can understand why people like the Ember. It was good for it's time. But it's 2018 now, and lot of great shit has come out since then. If you want to stick with Garage1964, then get the Horizon.

At this point, you may as well stop asking and just keep the Ember. This sounds most what you want to hear.

Indeed. Half of communication belongs to the person being communicated with. If someone wants a clear answer, then asking clear questions is half way to getting a clear answer. Murky questions are fine too, but expect a murky answer.

Exclusively high gain so far. Between 9-12 on the volume pot for AFO and HD650.

Try low gain on your NOS, and see if the details or treble soften.

    I've been running low gain.

Today is my first day here and the people have started treating me badly :(, the head-fi people are humbler, so little people, follow the example of purr1n and Vtory. :D

LOL, well head-fi is so full of noise and crap I can only stand about 30 minutes of it every few weeks.

Read more here, post less here. People here have good ears, and some have very deep technical backgrounds in audio, and they don't accept much BS (as they shouldn't). You'll get some VERY good advice here, if you read first, ponder, then post much later ;)

This is good advice @☣ Paparazzi ☢ ^^. Also, your name with those bright orange pumpkins is really annoying and distracting on the page. It's one reason I may put you on ignore. Just sayin'.

Considering you didn't even bother to follow the guidelines for new users, obviously didn't read any of this thread or bother searching the forum, not to mention you broke the cardinal rule of this site and are just shitposting noise, I'm surprised you haven't been treated worse. Go read the introduction thread, then read the "How to win friends and influence people" section of the forum for good examples of how not to behave here.
