I would only change one thing on that equation, as far as I can:

    Ember << Vali 2 < Horizon < MCTH

Guess I will have to obtain a Lyr 3 to complete the equation for myself.

I moderate another forum, can be a tough asshole if need-be, but generally don't. Never thought you were unfair, tough is fine at times. Damn you have a good ear, few of us could describe what they are hearing as well as you do.

Calm partner does not need to be sad, I know that you audiophiles are old enough, you have even grandchildren but not even need to lose their sense of humor, so be calm because it is not so much.

Seriously now, does Lyr 3 have the ability to soften headphones with a shiny signature?

By shiny, you mean bright? Then yes. As I've said before, a wee bit warm, but if anything, laid back in the highs. I use a bright 6SN7 to get more air with most headphones, including a modded HD800. I do not know your preferences, so I cannot say if this will work for you.

Do you further increase the brightness of the HD 800? Sorry if I said bullshit but I use google translator and it does not always translate correctly.

I think it'll help everyone if you told us all what headphones, amplifiers, and DACs you have right now, and what you want to improve upon. Do you like bright sounds, have HD800s you want to make less painful in the treble, want something to increase the soundstage, want something with better detail or faster attack? All that will help!

Also, not everyone on here is a grandad. Hell, I'm 25 and know some big spenders on here are actually younger than I am. Doesn't mean we don't have our share of cantankerous curmudgeonly crusties on here ;)

Holo Spring KTE in NOS mode> Lyr3 + TS > Ether C Flows keeps giving me shivers. Compared with this, my dac1541 (with its own amp) at work feels a bit muted and unenthusiastic. My experience so far is that the Lyr 3 is a great friend to a capable DAC.

25 is it? I will do 24 on the 11th of this month, but my doubts are regarding the same Lyr 3, I want to know what he is capable of, so I like the idea of a tube amplifier, the ability to change the sound, but knowing that not all tube amplifiers can do this I had these doubts correlation to it, but even though it is not a chameleon like many others I still find it quite interesting due to the numerous positive comments, and I hope one day to be able to buy it, that is, if it does not appear, there will be nothing more interesting until then. :p

The only thing u can trust - your own ears. Don’t be surprised a component overwelmly lauded turns out to be just average or vice versa. Chill...

No. It does not increase brightness of HD800. It does opposite to minor extent.

If you have the inclination, I'd like to know what DAC1541>Lyr 3 sounds like in comparison.

I just pulled the trigger on the SDAC + MCTH, which I plan to use in the office with my HD6XX. Much thanks to @atomicbob for sticking with me all the way to the finish line in validating a hypothesized issue, despite an early misunderstanding and a subsequent echo chamber of noise unrelated to the unit or the issue. I'm excited to listen through it.

I'm interested in the Lyr 3 for home use, where I listen with a Sundara and (hopefully soon!) an Elex. Sundara is a neutral-cold headphone, and the Elex looks to be similar-ish. I personally like a neutral signature with wet, dimensional bass, and smoothness from the upper midrange through presence and treble. I prefer musical (but not rolled off) over analytical signatures.

I was wondering if anyone can chime in on whether they believe the Lyr 3 would make a good pairing given these headphones and preferences. I've read here that the Lyr 3 is, relatively speaking, not particularly warm, and I'm a little worried about bite and sibilance if paired with the Sundara or Elex.

(I'm interested in a good performance-to-price hybrid amp because I want some of that tube magic with a planar.)

    Thanks!

Regarding headphones and amps, I believe they will pair well (if Sundara is not like classic HFMs). I am also waiting for my elex..
Potential concern might be rather sources. This amp is quite resolving and scales very well with quality source gears.

My beloved RME ADI-2 is arguably a very solid (ds) dac choice under $1k. But lyr 3 continuously pushes me to upgrade to higher-level dacs. Audition experience of great dacs taught me what additional details exist in the red book, and Lyr 3 convinced me capable of reveling THAT LEVEL if dacs are good enough.

I think you'll hear enough of a change between tubes that you could dial in the right sound with the Lyr 3. I have some KenRad black glass Vt231 (square mica) that have great bass and mids, but took too much off the treble. I also have a suspicion that the gain setting on the amp May subtly affect how the tube sounds.

The only problem is, I don't have any planar headphones to try, so I have no idea how the amp reacts with those.
