One of my current complaints for Lyr 3 is that it HIDES half of the tube.. I like to see glowing sexy tubes by eyes, and that was a big part of audio pleasure when I used taboo 4. Lyr 3.. nope. Colorful shines hide in the chassis.

Is there a particular (sonic) reason for some companies to try hide tubes into chassis? I've seen MCTH was also similarly hiding its tube (Cavalli's some amps even hide their tubes completely!.. like LG LC).

Hope Lyr 3 picture is worth being posted in the amp porn thread.. but not...

Tube socket goes into PCB which happens to be mounted close to the base of the chassis.

I guess you can add mounting bracket and put the socket on that with wires going to the main board.

Just get a socket saver and you can bask in what little tube glow a 6SN7 puts out!

Googled "socket saver" (I didn't know this term until today..)
Wow, it's exactly what I wanted. Quite tempting.

I might be able to see an erotic nude of TS 6SN7 early next week!

I was just curious because I haven't seen a square getter before. =P

(Ok, yeah... if it was cheap enough - say, $20 or so - I'd have picked one up, but for $40-50 I'll skip it.)

I felt a great disturbance in the Force - as if millions of tubes cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

I like princess silky smooth, so if anyone has more warmpooness to share, fling it at me.

@rott Total height of Lyr 3 with stock tube is right around 3.75".

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the getter difference too much. You can still find some of these dirt cheap and may be worth a try.

Shugangs are generally ooey gooey tubey and vaseline like.

Not sure it's worth trying a Sophia Princess for the name :)

You should able to pick up one of the student-guitar-amp Shugang brands for cheap though (Sino, Ruby, Fullmusic, there's a bunch).

Found one similar to the one you described, and it was kind of cheap, but not really, so... Why not.

I mean, $40 isn't cheap and would answer the "why not" question. :p

I'd have hedged my bets on a sub $10 tube. :)

I do dumb things so you don't have to. ;)

I'll let you know how it sounds.

Oh, and for anybody looking for tubes for the Lyr 3, I'll probably be selling a whole bunch of them in a couple weeks. LOL

Anyone using this with IEMs on occasion? Much noise? I saw one person mention very light humming with Andromeda.

Any updated thoughts on comparison between hp-1 and lyr 3?

I sadly did not enjoy my LSR30X out of my Bifrost Multibit/Jot - I use my Ifi iDSD BL exclusively with these monitors and the sound is outstanding! I know the Ifi doesn't get a lot of traction here for good reason but it sure does have its purposes. It has been an A+ pre.

I've used the Noble Audio Kaiser 10U with the Lyr 3 for a bit. Notes below on hum:

Tung-Sol 6SN7 - High Gain: Very loud humming.
Tung-Sol 6SN7 - Low Gain: Low humming (listenable but slightly annoying on quiet passages).
LISST - High Gain: Very loud noise.
LISST - Low Gain: No real hum but a slight low level noise. Not really noticeable during music playback though.

Jotunheim on the otherhand is dead quiet.

Thanks! Not surprising but disappointing - would be convenient to use one amp for IEMs and larger cans.
