what about an Amperex Orange Globe (Holland) with it for HD800's? Those are nice and warm as well IMO.

Yup. The Valhalla 2 tubes should work. I think the Vali 2 might be a touch more laid back than the Valhalla 2. This is from memory.

no shit! there is no reason/excuse/rationale to claims of "out growing" (classic) Sonic Youth albums.

I'd listen to Bad Moon Rising every night if possible. actually, will do so now via Black Widow and HE1K.
    "seven days and seven nights...."

sorry, back to Vali 2 lust and boners.

@purrin Is Vali 2 a clear winner over Vali 1, or are they too different.

I've been sick all week, so I'm not particularly at my mental best...do you mean in a month to tell you whether or not I like the Element, or if you like the Vali 2 still?

Some us need a DAC that's voiced studio style, not audiophile warm.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to say? A Multibit Modi would be warm and gooey?

And there is always Yggdrasil and Gungnir Multibit for a studio tuning, or the plethora of D/S Sabre DACs. :)

Ha! So Jason's post around Dec/Jan on HF about only having new products and no updates was short sighted. Now we have a Mjolnir 2 and the Vali 2.

I like a lot of the updates on the Vali 2. I didn't think they were going to change the tube because I thought they had huge stocks of those old tubes but I guess tube rolling takes precedence. The gain switch and pre-outs are also nice additions as well as the new power supply.

I never bought the Vali and its now listed for $99 as a closeout sale. Great buy for the price? Good stocking stuffer?

Definitely! Especially at $99. The original Vali is a great amp for the price IMO. And it is no slouch on providing power. It could power my HD650's (300 Ohm) without any problem. If you could swing the other $60 though, I think the Vali 2 would be better, however I have not heard it yet. I can say though that I did own a Vali 2 before I upgraded to Valhalla 2 and the original Vali sounds great and like I stated above, can power 300 Ohm Headphones without a problem.

I concur. This was my primary amp for a year and a half. Other than the microphonics/brief dinging from the tubes when first powered on or bumped into, it's truly a class above everything else at that price. Plenty of power for HD600 and ZMF Omni (my two primary headphones). I thought it completely outclassed the Magni (which sounded cold to me). One caveat: it doesn't suit IEMs). I have "better" amps now, but still am amazed by the performance. It scales well with better DACs. I got a Bifrost Multibit recently and wasn't expecting much more out of the Vali. I was pretty amazed. (Haven't heard the Vali 2 or the Magni 2 yet, but they both cost more).

Us male audiophiles have interesting perspectives. I also found it weird looking. Showed it to wife, she found it adorable and cute.

@schiit Jason, you said you'll get rid of the top chassis screws in new releases :(

I think it looks like the Bravo V3 but with a metal chassis.

Certainly has that look. The internals shot tells a completely different story of course, so nothing like the Bravo. Also based on descriptions, better power supply.

I wish it used a better volume pot (ALPS RK27 pl0x) and had the Valhalla 2 volume nob.

What's the point of this post anyway? You already have the Yggdrasil on the market. And if you don't like that, go buy something you do. We get your tastes. No need to stick your face into every post you can. If you think a MB Modi will be warm and gooey, don't buy it, and stick to the rant thread you already made.
