A big thank you to @slankoe for laying a headband cover on me for my new Clears - Fo free! Its peeps like him that give me the warm and fuzzies.

This wool headband fits the Focal Clears like a glove and it's not the least bit itchy. A good investment from the get go if you want to stop the discoloration of the OEM headband.

I'm truly grateful that I'm allowed into the club considering I'm somewhat of a audio luddite in the company of most of you. Someday I will have a more edumacated opinion that I can share that will in turn help others too. But @slankoe just demonstrated that there are other ways to help people out than posting.

Cultures like SBAF thrive because people here grasp the concept of the more you give the more you get back.

Tweek on my Super Best Audio Friends!

Thanks for the shoutout @dumbo and I hope that you enjoy your headband cover for a long time to come, better to put it to use than allowing it to collect dust over here. It is a pleasure to interact with a genuine dude and fellow enthusiast like yourself! All the best.

Thread title seems androcentric but okay

Adding to the feel good: Thank you to @Bill-P, @Elnrik, and @Bigferret for excellent deals on cool gear, and for being patient with my sorting PayPal out (haha), to @CEE TEE for helping source a replacement part for a product that should have been out of warranty, to @L'Orfeo for his too-generous gift, to all too many people for fun conversations and sound advice, and to all the regular reviewers for keeping eejits like myself from wasting money!

Paying it forward is certainly the way to go. I do feel indebted to a great many of you, and hope I'm able to do as much for others in the future. Thanks, really.

I'm kinda glad @Lyr25 is challenging the patriarchal phrases that we all take for granted.

SBAF is by nature very loose and non PC shall we say (which makes perfect sense to me) but it's good to call into question the language we use, if only to good naturedly point it out.

    PC crud:
I grew up with a badass mum and three sisters. Kinda makes it easy to realize that guys kinda do get a free pass for a lotta things, though I don't consider myself an archetypal SJW (much as I like to joke about being one). I'd probably have rage quit this site after a week if I were, haha.

Speaking of, there is at least one person I know of on here who finds it chauvinistic for their tastes and seldom engages as a result, which is a bit sad when you stop and think about it, but as long as they get to listen to good music and like their gear, I guess that's what matters most.

Going back to how guys get a free pass, it helps that I grew up with stereotypical "Men" and have a few... old-fashioned guy friends, even to this day; it drives home that people are essentially products of their own cultures and upbringing, and that even if they cause offense with their actions and viewpoints, that need not necessarily be their intent, and they're often more happy than not to acquiesce once checked. It's only when people are bullish about keeping on with discriminatory talk or misogynistic shit that I really get irked.
    /PC crud

Also, editing my previous post to thank someone for what was easily the best deal I've come across in any hobby (save maybe for that Omas 360 Fumé I got a few years back). Err, sorry I forgot, in my defense I was sleepy and wearing the headphones so they were rather easy to miss :p

    hello,

MrsForBin and i have iPod LOD cables that were sent to me gratis by...(you know who you are.)

the generosity of this community is a constant wonder. knowledge is shared (even when i don't understand e.g. measurements & graphs), snark is shared (why yes, yes it is mid-fi purgatory in which i dwell), gear is shared (the loaner programs have caused me to [at least] hope to spend money in future), i have been able to have MrsForBin hear things we cannot afford, and yet tell me she wants.

this is an actual community, a bunch of crazy f*ckers who love music and would like to be able to hear it occasionally

    thanks

    (n.b. "peoplely" love, mebbee?.)

I've been here for several months now. Before joining SBAF, I was told that this is a very unfriendly place full of wierd people, ban hammers for no reason etc. And since I always put such statements via thick filter, when someone tells me similar anecdotes about this place now, I can confidently say: "Mate, you have no idea how wrong you are."

SBAF to me is less about hardware and far more about vibe, at least that's the way I see it. There's no tension here, which I've found quite liberating.

That explains much. The vast majority of the people I have been close to irl have been pretty weird. Thanks and cheers, weirdos.

Much thanks to many here who made good audio affordable for me.
    @thegunner100 , @Torq , @philipmorgan , @Changeling , @spwath , and @a44100Hz .
    Sorry to anyone I forgot!
Hard to express what its like, in my late 40s, to hear music from this equipment. It's like hearing from an old friend.

Yeah, I would like to thank people too. When I get a good job after college, I will give back to this community.
Big thanks to @jowls for giving me a FREE HD650. That really ascended my audio from whatever I was using before (Grado SR80e or Fostex T50RP I think...). That really got me more into this hobby.
Thanks to everyone else here on giving me great deals on other gear, @purr1n for trying to give me free horns, though they ended up being what I had, and to many more. @Daveheart thanks for the great deal on the AK120II, really great for my CA Orions, @Ray Thaanks for the soon to be great deal on the Hood 1969 amp, and thanks to everyone else. This is a great community.
I assure you, I will give back to this community more when I am not a college student and have the means to do so.

I'm sure that, as you learn and experience more and more, you will increasingly give back to the community as one of its real engineers! That's probably worth far more than cash :). Keep up the good work!

(of course... nothing wrong with cash, lol)

I think we'd be surprised if we knew all the generosity of spirit and acts of kindness that go on behind the scenes, unremarked, unadvertised and unsolicited. Speaking from experience here, I say "thank you" to those whose names remain in the shadows of philanthropic humility.
