As these are getting good reviews, can people who heard it at RMAF post their impressions. Also compare it to existing MKII and their modded versions (Mad dog, Paradox)

Are they available now, or when is the release date?

Officially released in Japan at the end of last month. Available at some online retailers in Europe but not sure about NA.

I think I'm going to hold off on getting a pair of these until the general consensus is in, but they've definitely piqued my interest. I've never heard a stock pair of MKIIs, but since I love my ZMF x Vibro I could see myself using the MKIIIs as an easily replaceable portable stand-in.

Look over at the link from that blog and the RMAF impressions.
The impressions over these seems to be very good so far at RMAF, and the thread should get more impressions in the next few days.
If one is wanting an isolating pair of headphone's though, they should consider whether they want a t40rp variant (closed) or a modified t50rp (semi-open), where the modder tends to fill in the isolation gaps.

I got to listen to a pair briefly today at one of my local dealers, who have them in stock and discounted to about USD$140. I only had a phone and a borrowed Hifiman DAP to test, but I really liked what I heard, especially compared to how the MkII was at stock. I'm fairly sure neither of those devices put close to enough power for them. I'll have to try them again with my Geek Out V2+ when it arrives to get a better idea of how it is.

I'd also like to know what these are like compared to Mad Dogs. I feel like the MkIII was made in response to all these mods and since Fostex can do this at a manufacturing scale, I wouldn't be surprised if they could get something that sounds like the Mad Dogs but for a much cheaper price.

I still have my Mad Dogs. MK3 might actually be better. I'll have to get a pair and compare.

I liked the T50mkIII more but I havent listened to either of them long enough to reach a conclusion on that. I might get that done later today at my dealer who carries both.

Thanks for the link. Just ordered the T20RP mkIII's from them. When I get back from work at the end of the month, I'll take them apart and post photo's. It will be nice to compare them to the insides to the T50RP mkIII's when people start receiving those and posting pics. I'm wondering if the semi open T50's (looks like only the bottom vents are open) vs. the fully open T20's (appear to have both top and bottom vents open) internals are the same.

I'll also try my well worn Mr. Speakers Alpha pads with them, taping varying amounts of vents closed (that's why I went with the fully open T20's), and possibly converting them to balanced, to help get them the power they deserve...

How are these in terms of isolation and sound leakage?

I got a good amount of time on them yesterday at my local dealer. Isolation is pretty good for a supposed semi-open, and leakage is negligible. I also found them a shade more bassy than I like but I figure swapping out the pads would improve it on that front, as well as in terms of isolation.

Like TH-900 good or Alpha Dog good?

Better than the TH-900 definitely. I can't say for sure about the Alpha Dog but I imagine buying Alpha Dog pads would put it in that ballpark.

Got a pair of Mk3s earlier this week - have to say they're well worth the money! Extended and clear bass, and the mid to treble range is much smoother than the Mk2s. A tad bright for me, but please bear in mind that I'm one of those slightly treble-sensitive types - I stuck a disc of felt inside each earpad, which helped. Also worth noting that my pair rolls off in the sub-bass from 30hz down much a lot faster on the left than on the right. Doesn't seem to make a difference for the vast majority of music though, and sealing the gaps in the cable jack may help this.

    Now here's the good stuff...

As Hands mentioned in his impressions, there's a significant baffle mod - Fostex have placed a foam insert around the driver. Also, pad rims slot into a thin gap instead of wrapping around the cup as they did on the Mk2. Hopefully this will make pad rolling easier.

The recessed area for the foam to sit in. The small baffle port from the Mk2 seems to be gone. Also, no felt stuck in front of the driver. Screw holes are all in the same positions as the Mk2.

Looks like they took a cue from the TH500RP driver! There are 2 bits of felt at the top and bottom of the baffle, not sure how they affect sound. There might be openings under them, didn't prod hard enough.

Cup looks similar to the Mk2.

Shure 840 pads do NOT go well with the Mk3s - weird cavernous sound with sucked out mids. I'm getting some HM5 hybrids and angled pads, will see if either set can improve comfort while retaining the best qualities of the stock sound.

    Hope this helps!
