June 9-10th 10am-6pm, The Source AV is hosting AudioCon in our store. Hosting McMasters Classes and the McIntosh Clinic for McIntosh equipment (Signups required).

Raffling off the $1800 McIntosh Clock, the MCLK12 and Sonus Faber Chameleon Bookshelf Speakers.

Audeze will be joining us and will have some b-stock headphones to sell, trying to get them to bring in the Mobius for demo. And possibly a new headphone reveal from them...

Sennheiser is letting us borrow the HD820 for the event.

And Woo Audio is lending us their preproduction Woo 3ES electrostatic amp for the show. Got the Voce and 009 in store to test it out with but feel free to bring in whatever estat headphone you would like to test it with.

Finally, we got a total of two headphones to announce at the event, I know about one but am in the dark about the other.

    New headphone.....

Audeze LCD-2C Closed Back, $899 price point, looking like a July release, exclusive to dealers only, pictures coming soon.

LCD-2C ended up being a headphone Audeze sold exclusively direct even though they were telling dealers they were going to be sold to dealers. The Closed back will be the opposite and will be sold through only dealers and not through Audeze direct.

Which is the other new headphone? You said in the first post: "we got a total of two headphones to announce at the event" :)

So looks like he second company that was supposed to announce couldn't actually make it out today so we only had the LCD-2C Closed back to announce.

The Spirit Torino headphones were brought last minute so even though they were previously announced at Munich, they were shown I believe in the first time in USA

Never heard of Spirit Torino before. Are they modded Grados?

So what the distributor told me, the maker of those headphones started by modding Grados and from there he started making his own headphones. The drivers are unique and custom but shares the same design and pads of the Grados. The leather is individually selected per headphone and real Italian leather.

Twin driver and single driver units. Here is the website:

Grado sound, modded or otherwise, is not for everyone. How similar do they sound I wonder?

Grados are, for me, the sonic equivalent of a bald hairdresser, I hope the Spirit Torino sounds different.

Wasn't the Ananda and I thought that was also already revealed at Munich show.

The week before the event, I was told there was going to be a second headphone announced next to the LCD-2C Closed Back but wasn't told the company name. Day of the event, Audeze shows up in the morning with their new headphone, but second company was no where to be found.

It is confusing and I still don't really understand what happened
Been a while since I used some Grados, even my own SR60i I don't think has been plugged in for a few years.

Comfort felt like a Grado with the giant pads. Had to align the driver directly otherwise it just sounded off.

Had a quick demo of it and found it better than my usual experiences hearing Grados in the past. The treble wasn't piercing, mids was nice and present, bass was strong but not overly so, soundstage was a bit average. Better than the other Grados I have heard in the past.

Spirit Torino uses custom nhoord driver in isobar series
And the cavity inside of it is damped, so, the fullrange isobar mashing doesn't happen

Distortion is way way lower than a grado
And bass is clean and goes till subbass region

Its kinda dark and airy(yes treble goes up in extension and goes down in dB) and completely different from what a grado is.

It gives a sense of vast soundstage and feeling of HD600(old one) in signature with more clarity and larger mids.

    Liked it

But I Still think that Symphones Magnum V9..only 1 driver(driver for grado modders) is still way better if you want to have a grado mod.

Its slight brighter(no where near grado sparkle, but it does have resolution which some planars also can't reach). And is even big in stage and image(nothing sounds hollow, the stage is literally big)

Almost all grado modding driver are made to be used with G cush only

They are tuned with G cush in mind

And I think, its fine with l cush

But the smaller ttvj or s cush will kill the treble and make them sound lifeless and dull
