these look sort of interest, especially the plugsble opamp. I’ve no experience with the company, but a 5year warranty also sound good. Any thoughts on these ams?

Clearly the fun is an entry level amp, so need to co pare it to other amps in its price range.

Also, the play sort of looks interesting for someone with a tower Pc and limited desk space.

    Finally, 15%off these amps with

Seem like possibly an option to recommend to a friend that wants better, but doesn’t want to spend a fortune and get into the hobby.

The HP amp integrated in the PC case is kinda cool.

Really interesting is the speaker amp though. I haven't seen another Class AB amp in that small-form factor before.

29w into 8 ohms seems respectable for moderate volumes.

All of these 3 audio devices sound perfectly even with the default NE5532/5534 op-amps. So, with less money everyone can get good quality equipment from a respectable company backup'd by a 5-years warranty.

However, the heat generated by the BANG needs to be quickly dissipated by the fans from inside the computer. If that would not be possible, then BANG can use it's own power supply of 120VA and can sit outside the case (I'm using it on top of the mini-tower case).

Also, op-amp rolling is fun and addicted, even if audio differences are less to none sometimes. :)

A compact LM3886 gainclone (I'm sure it's more than simply that) with rollable opamp buffer? The Bang looks cool. I've been wanting something similar to exist for a while.

This a pre-production unit and the rollable op-amp is in front of the output buffers, it's a dual op-amp powered from 1 x +/-12V and the output buffers are powered from 2 x +/-24.5V.

That's what I expected, as that's the more usual configuration. Surprised at the low voltage for the LM3886, but that also makes sense given the choice of heat sink.

    FUN under stress-tests here:

I got a perfect 10.15V RMS output voltage @600Ohms output resistance for 1KHz sine-wave with 2.2V RMS input signal. That's about 170mW of power @600 Ohms cans. I'll try to get the same measurement under 30 Ohms load tomorrow; ideally this should do >3W/channel, but I doubt it will without clipping...I'll see tomorrow. :)

At +/-24.5V it should be able to output 29W @8Ohms and 54W @4Ohms, but manufacturer is advertising this unit at max. 40W @4Ohms, most likely because of the TDP vs. the heatsink. I had it tested inside a very well ventilated workstation and I found out that BANG is having a way much lower temperature than sitting on my desk (however, my case was huge, water cooled and with lot of 120mm fans).

Oh, I was confused and thought the "opamps" referred to the lm3886 and the "buffers" to the rollable opamps. Those voltages are now much more typical. Is the desktop heat uncomfortable to touch, or just very warm?

It's temp is lower than PLAY combo...under no music or very low volume it's below 40C.

I'll do my best to extend the stress-test during this weekend, maybe I'll push it until the 2 x LM3886TF will get into their internal protection limit...or at least to uncomfortable temp levels; I just need good damned resistors to purchase, as I can't use my speakers for this because of the very high dB output inside my home. :)

BTW, I've used Artic Silver MX-2 thermal compound for a better thermal resistance...not sure it will help much here.

    BANG on da bench

At 14.5V RMS @ 4.9Ohms for 1KHz sine-wave it starts to distort a very little bit (see the bottom of the sine-wave); that's almost 43 Watts of RMS power, so when listening to music/program the output power will be higher. Lowering the input source & output volume to 14.3V RMS or below will make the above sine-wave to look perfect, without any visible distortion on my scope.

Need to say that bottom of the case was indeed hot to touch, but given the wiring and the dummy resistors from my bench I was unable to use my IR thermometer. However, temps were not alarming, so no thermal protection occurred during this test.

I couldn't find or DIY/make a 4Ohms dummy resistor to test the output power, but given the above result I would approximate about 50W/channel RMS.

DC-output is around -0.5mV...+0.7mV per channel with MUSES8920 used in voltage-gain or 20mV...30mV/channel when NE5532 is used.

    ...continuing with the FUN tests

I was able to get absolutely perfect sine-wave with no visible distortion with my scope until voltage raises above 7.5V RMS. In the above image you can see the distortions appear on both raise & fall of the sine-wave, this correspond to 7.642V RMS @ 29.5Ohms (my dummy resistor) which means about 2W/channel.

DC-output with 2 x NE5534 in voltage-gain was 1.6mV/1.7mV for both channels (after 3 minutes of use; after several hours of warm-up DC-output might increase or decrease with few %). With 2 x SS V6 Classic (singles) the DC-output voltage was few mV more. Output DC-voltage is very low for an amp without DC-servo, instead it used a protection circuit on the outputs.

This powerful 2W/channel @30Ohms headamp is promising a lot for it's price, especially if choosing the default version with NE5534 op-amps. After all, AD797 or OPA134 or similar single op-amps could do the job very well

I'm an idiot...seems that some pics just don't work if you're not logged into your Google account. Hmmm...I wonder how can I share them correctly...gimme some time and I'll get this sorted out. Thanks for pointing out!

Don't know how to resolve this, hence posting some of the above pics again.

I don't see them either outside of one picture in post #6.

The Play looks pretty nice to me, but since I already have the ADI-2 DAC I can't really see myself blind buying one.
