All headphones are look a alike a bit. Maybe that's because all of them should fit a head? ;)
I've tried no to make direct plagiarism from any existing headphone, but for sure has several sources for inspiration.

Can't comment this but I won't disagree with this statement :D

In this thread @Hands measured this headphones with several pads. Perforated leather is a good variant, makes sound a bit more open.

Have you tried applying something soft, like a rubber tube or heatshrink, to the magnet rods? The idea is to reduce and/or disperse the treble reflections between driver and magnet. Just an idea, and I don't really have a clear idea of how big of a factor this would even be. But considering how much of an impact damping or reflecting surfaces behind the driver has on planars, maybe it could have a nice effect? (Or maybe no effect or maybe just terrible haha).

Imagine taking the "fuzzor" approach, qpplying thin felt to the magnets all the way around, so no surfaces reflect any serious treble.

Headband reminds me a bit of the Abyss also...I hope it doesn't have that ringing quality the Meze have, very loud if you accidentally touch it.

That being said, I kinda like the look.

    I also won't care a whit if they're comfortable.

These seem to have the strongest bass response with a good seal, i.e. the controlled leak doesn't seem to cause a resonance boost like you might get on a HFM or Audeze.

I understand about what you're talking about. Yes, I thought about it. The best way would be to make magnets that are oval in cross section. But that's an idea saved for future releases.

Haedband is made from 0.7mm hardened spring steel. So If you take smth like a screwdriver and hit it - you'll receive plenty of ringing ;) But all hinges has pleather spacers to prevent ringing during normal use.

I will never understand how planar drivers manage to work in so many different ways :p

Is it the fact that HFM drivers that do this only have drivers on one side? That kinda makes sense to me at least

Amount of the air that driver is capable to move is the key to understanding.

Right! Like the Thiele-Small parameters of a subwoofer, and the Q of a vented/ported enclosure... Makes sense!

It's closer to volume displacement parameter. It's an Xmax*Sd (square of the driver)

Aaah, tes! The maximum excursion. I was thinking about that earlier, with planar drivers usually being tensioned, how does that limit the maximum excursion, and how do they respond to extreme volume vs a dynamic driver?

Yep, something like this should be good.

Less excursion = less distortion. That's true for any type of driver. Dynamic drivers usually has much higher excursion then planars, but planars are not limited in diameter. For example, Verum 1 has driver 82mm in diameter so it can achieve high spl without significant rise in distortion even at extreme volume (but please prepare high current amp :D ).
If someone use 82 mm driver in headphones you receive extremely dark headphones with treble fall off above 5-6 khz. For example Sony xb1000 with 70mm drivers - have you ever heard that disaster? ;)

So each type of transducers has benefits and disadvantages.

Again, makes a ton of sense! More moving mass = more volume for less movement. I've actually encountered this before in the bass player world.

The one thing planars seem to struggle with still is really good clean tight high end. The resonance of the membrane seems to do something up there. Your drivers seem to be doing a good job, looking at the CSD.

For 300 dollars, I might be interested in joining the club. How have you been working to adress the distortion shown in the first post? Did you already fix that, and I just miased it?

Distortion peaks is already fixed. Just compare THD at @cskippy and @Hands measurements.

    Two main revisions:
    1. Higher tension if diaphragm
    2. Added felt on magnets to minimize reflections from naked magnets.

    Excellent!

When will the kickstarter launch do you think? I can't guarantee that I will be able to join, but I'm going to make an attempt.

I plan to do this next week or in a week. I'm impatiently waiting for several reviews on youtube and blogs but just tired of waiting. Everything is ready, permission from Kickstarter received and now I'm editing advertising video for crowdfunding campaign.

I would be nice to see the higher tension version compared to the version @cskippy had on the same measurement system. The lower distortion will have trade-offs I assume.

No trade-offs, I can guarantee this. I made version with very loose membrane cause I thought that to achieve linear response in sub-bass region I need higher x-max then good tensioned membrane can provide. That was a mistake. Square of membrane is enough to play 20 hz even with high tension at any reasonable volume.

Thank you for the reply. You addressed one of my concern with the tension. Hopefully dynamics / impact are unaffected also.
