On the burn-in topic, way too many people on HF are talking something is bad because it's not burned-in enough/properly. Burn-in might be a truth (or not, as I mostly believe), but in no way would it transform crap into gold (aside from DAC and tube).

And what else are they supposed to post? It's not very different that the THX00 thread here. I absolutely hate Jude and some of the posters over there, but this is just criticizing for the sake of criticizing. HF is a hobbyist site, after all, you should not expect everyone to take notes for a month and then write a professional review.

I never said that I expect all posts to be considered, professional reviews. Only that most of the content on the Carbon thread I subscribed to (and the TH-X00 thread kevnin mentioned) is not useful to me or interesting to read. If you like those threads, then that's fine. For my part, I think the "low SNR" comment still stands.

    Edit: forgot a comma

Just my opinion.. but what else are they supposed to do? NOT POST.. Seriously.. if there's nothing valuable to add at the moment.. don't post anything. Show some damn restraint. Sit tight.. go outside, read a book, meditate.. do anything but whine about not receiving a transportable amp on the internet.

Or, you could not read it.

Yet here we all sit, complaining about an internet forum on an internet forum.

Then it would not be a hobbyist site anymore. The forum would become as serious and as quiet as a library. I usually just ignore the nonsense...no one is forcing you to read every single post.

Or come here and place yourself above everyone there...:( in a community of prideful headphone elitists? No offense guys and feel free to not like me here at SBAF. I appreciate tons of things about this place. I have no investment here or there. However, some of this is just as useless if not more. Specifically; bashing people who may even be fans of some of you here. How downright Arrogant.
Every time you have a large population the substance will get lost and the moderators will have to do stupid things like ban people to keep others happy. I hate being warned over there for stupid stuff but at the same time, I as a human, I am prone to error just like them and have found myself regretting more than my fair share of useless posts.

If SBAF ever got as popular it could only be just as bad but in all of the opposite areas that head-fi is.

"To strive to be better than someone is to be worse at the areas they are better than you at...The greatest enemy is self"

Edit... then as I am in the interest of a ZOTL amp.. I go to impressions and find more useless posts....Just as useless as mine on head-fi.[IMG] We are all useless face it! This hobby is pretty useless lol. No nobel prizes here.

It's a good idea to lurk for a while (and/or read some threads on Changstar) in order to get a sense of our expectations: our "inbetweenivist" approach to correlating measurements with performance and our no-bullshit-but-not-gratuitously-rude tone. Or you can make no effort: just start posting, but don't be surprised or upset if you get flamed. We'll appreciate the former much more than the latter. #ThanksCaptainObvious!

    'lurk mode on'
    Im captain obvious
lurk....been there and done that for a looooong time.

To a pirate I am a "Captain Obvious":sail:<---even if on a lonely raft. I love the measurements and subjective / objective approach but..."no-bullshit-but-not-gratuitously-rude tone" you really believe the first half of your quote? Im not saying this site has more or less bullcrap than any other site. Only that it has just as much but in a different way. Pick your toilet.

gbeast, there's a lot of history surrounding this site and its predecessor. I understand why you might feel the way you do, but there is much for you to learn that I think you might find rather insightful and enlightening. It might be difficult to be aware of, or even dig up, if you aren't more tenured.

I can get what you mean, or where you're coming from. But I actually don't agree with the "it's all the same, the pluses and minuses are just spread around differently" evaluation. Is there fuckery here? Yeah. (That's my new favorite word; I try to use it in every post. I am part of the problem!!). Arrogance? Yeah. It's not perfect, and you are correct that no site can ever be perfect. And I actually think it's a good thing when someone holds up a mirror for SBAF, or any site, to consider some external reference - so I like your post!

But I maintain that there are substantive differences on the plus side here that far outweigh the negatives, and especially as compared to HF.

    Just my $0.02, ymmv.

@gbeast, no place is perfect. In the end you decide where you want to spend your time.

Bullcrap is perhaps sort of relative to your perception of what is bullcrap. Pick the site that in your opinion has less bullcrap. Or the bullcrap, from your perspective, that bothers you least.

You don't have to leave HF to be here though. And you can quote from whatever site you like in here. Which is something not all sites allow.
