Who's going? I've never been to RMAF before and was wondering if it was worth flying out for. How has it been in recent years and what should I expect if I do go?

I went in 2016 and really enjoyed! It was my first show and did not know what to expect. No better way to check out so much gear in one place! Also there are lots of new products that come out at RMAF which is fun.

I was in the market for some CIEM's. This allowed me to check out all the big brands and make the best decision.

I am planning to go this year! But I will only be able to attend Friday.

I've been the last few years, and really enjoyed it. There's more to see and hear than you can fit in a full day, assuming you are interested in 2 channel stuff as well. If not, you can fit the canjam portion into a day. I think it's worth going, but I don't have to pay for airfare and a hotel.

We had a really cool lunch gathering last time. I hope we do the same kind of thing this year.

It's worth going just to experience ME.

I would love to go. If my funds are agreeable, I'll go this year for the first time.

I will be going, not too sure yet the capacity of what I will be doing and I haven't made travel arrangements but I will be there probably most likely.

Went for the last 2 years now, great show.

this is truth. @Hands often has his own (ahem) “listening room” in the hotel to service friends after drinks.

All I can say is thank goodness they redid the restaurant at the RMAF Marriott! Was a bit like bad-food-roulette previously.

But in all seriousness, RMAF is an interesting experience and will open your eyes and ears (and if you're not careful your wallet!) both for headphone and 2-channel systems. Just watch out for the old-school 2-channel people looking down at those of us primarily into HP stuff. Occasionally there's a bit of a Sharks vs. Jet micro-vibe. Would love for a dance routine to break out between the rival groups...

I spent hours watching Hands have one seizer after another at RMAF. Very entertaining. :)

Seriously though, I drive up from NM (about 6 hour drive) and I stay at the Hampton Inn near the RMAF hotel. To say there's not enough time on one day is major understatement. There's not enough time for three solid days! That is, assuming you want to listen to the 2 channel stuff too. There's usually a seminar or two worth going to as well. In addition to the CanJam floor, there are usually a few high-end rooms for headphones as well.

The show isn't as a major event as it used to be as a result of there being no many other shows now. Still, it's a great event for any Audiophile.

I like to spend time in the larger rooms with the equipment I would never buy due to me liking to eat every day. Where else can you listen to $250,000 of equipment and $400,000 of cabling/anti-vib/racks at the same time!

Now, would I fly out from NY? Probably not. I would probably go to the NY Audio Show and CanJam NY, or if that isn't enough, AXPONA in Chicago, assuming it's easier to get to Chi from NY than to Denver.

That said, all the cool kids live in the Rocky Mountain states! Plus I'll try to organize another SBAF lunch, which was quite fun.

I remain convinced that there's something horribly wrong with that pricing situation.

Dreadfully wrong. People are prepared to pay more for the stuff they think influences the sound than they are for the stuff that does?

But I'd still like to go that show. And to the one in (?)Munich where they do the pro audio gear. Sadly, I'm continents away from both.

Time to plan for the SBAF annual lunch on RMAF Saturday at High Noon! I’m thinking we eat at the same place as last year (Pint Brothers Alehouse), since it was so easy (the restaurant in the atrium of the hotel)

    Who’s in?

Note: I will reserve a table in the back.

    Confirmed:
    1. @AllanMarcus
    2. @jexby (wants to hold hand's hand during lunch)
    3. @Brad Tombaugh
    4. @Hands
    5. @Elnrik
    6. @schiit
    7. @Tyll Hertsens (79.93% chance)
    8. @Ice-man (maybe)
    9. @Torq
    10. @JoshMorr
    11. @JK47
    12. @MrTeaRex
    13. @MrTie
    14. @ampsandsound (definite maybe)
    15. @CEE TEE (possibly)
    16. @Effusion (plus a few friends)
    17. @MisterRogers
    Unable to attend :-(
    1. @netforce + Jason (50% chance)
    2. @E_Schaaf

    Desired (PM sent):
    @zach915m

    The actual lunch!

Saturday is perfect, the only day I can attend. best to invite @zach915m and @schiit and the usual cast of know-it-alls and wizards.

I call dibs on sitting next to @Hands.

Any chance we can reserve a big table in the back like last time? Life is better when you don't have 50 randos coming up and begging for attention while you are trying to eat a burger and talk to folks.

a noble request. yet this group does not drink at the noon hour. celibacy is our pact.
I call dibs on not sitting next to @Elnrik due to his grabby hands.
