Oh, regarding the DragonFire desktop speakers. I won't impressed, but later that night I was told they had "some bad hires music files". I didn't have time to go back and listen again.

In any event, if you are interested in desktop planar speakers, I would highly recommend you look at the Mini Maggie System. It's $1490, which includes two desktop planar speakers and a bass panel for under the desk. I would read up on the speakers before you get them as they have some specific requirements regarding placement and reflections (specifically the bass panel). Also, you need a really good amp, so budget $1000 for a good, powerful, AB amp.

Anyone with further impressions of the Liquid Platinum (aside from it sounding good with the HD6XX)?

I feel bad for not introducing myself to everyone, as well as any awkward interactions with some folks. I'm only a little socially inept. :) Just wanted to let you all know it stemmed from awkwardness on my end and not any ill will.

I don't believe it was at RMAF. Did someone see it there?

There was one at the Mr. S table with the Ether 2, but I didn't get a chance to listen.

It's very, very clean, sharp, and fast sounding. Little in the way of euphonics, though doesn't sound lean, sterile, etc. This is just the character of the amp, not necessarily how it sounded with the E2. Though I did listen to the E2 with that and the Liquid Glass. I thought it paired well with the LP, but you may want to look elsewhere if you want a more euphonic sound of any kind.

We'd have to ask our crew that went to Denver. Maybe they did.

Wow, those MQA guys are massive pricks. What a shit show.

The MQA CEO would only answer questions with questions, dodged everything thrown at him, yet constantly interrupted the presentation and said all he wanted was transparency from the presenter. f'ing hypocrite.

it's not like i sit around watching RMAF sessions, but among those I've seen, that seemed like a pretty heaping helping of, "Look, we've convinced the ORFAS guys that sit on the boards of all these big music companies and the 6 guys that still work at The Absolute Sound and Stereophile, so who f'ing cares if we're caught out on marketing bullshit to squeeze a few more bucks out of those sloppy, fat fucks?"

    Because Streeeeeming.

All hail the CD. jeezus. Where's some diamonds on the soles of her shoes when i need it... Also, i'm not upset my DAC only does unfuckedwith 19 bits. Sounds good enough to my sorry ass.

Edit: to add, waiting with abated breath for Qobuz. Kinda non-plussed Tidal jumped ankle-deep into the MQA kiddy shitpool.

Yeah, right, "some bad hires music files". If the music files didn't sound good, you'd think they would simply stop playing them.

I haven't heard the Mini Maggie, but I researched it when I was wondering whether it might be the ultimate near field system. Besides the formal reviews, there is a head-fi thread where several owners discuss their real world experiences: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/magnepan-mini-maggie-desktop-speaker-system.620289/. Even fans of the system agree that bass is lacking and recommend adding a second bass panel or a powered subwoofer. The detail and imaging are unparalleled but the speakers produce a narrow beam with little dispersion and a very small sweet spot. It doesn't work well even if you just want to step away from the desk and crank it up to play into the room. In the end, it didn't seem to be the right system for me but I'm still interested in hearing it for myself.

FFS, the behavior of those MQA guys remind me of the aggressive counter-attack approach employed by the Scientology attack dogs. Focusing on the fact Archimago uses a pseudonym is a total red herring. Fair play to Chris for putting this out there.
