My Eitr has been trouble free since I received 6 months ago and is left on all the time. Using Eitr before my DAC makes a noticeable improvement in SQ a veil is lifted I can hear deeper into the music as more detail is revealed. Which leads me to believe the USB implementation in the Brooklyn DAC+ ain't that great. The other week I briefly switched back to using USB on the Brooklyn and confirmed, I could only tolerate listening via direct USB for about an half hour before I put the Eitr back in.

I finally pulled the trigger on the Schiit Eitr for my Modi Multibit. I knew this was the upgrade to make based on feedback from users I trust on this site - @Luckbad comes to mind.

Anyways, having been out of the "headphone game" for a while, being busy with life and generally not had that much time to enjoy my rig, I was unsure what to expect from the upgrade. Would I still be a keen to change as I had been before?

15 to 30 minutes with the Eitr swept all doubt away. This was a significant upgrade versus straight usb. I would like a laymans explanation on why the Eitr works so damn well. What sort of magic is going on in that little box?

All I hear is a much clearer and more enjoyable sound. Less fatigue, more space. Lovely, absolutely fantastic.

Did you read Jason’s chapter about it over at HF?

In essence they added input transformers before the USB transceiver chip.
This electrically isolated the USB digital audio source from the rest of the downstream USB chain.

There were other changes as well but this is the one design change that was new and very significant.

Not sure if anybody can answer this, but is it normal that the Eitr hisses for about 20sec after music stops playing?
Chain is AsusMobo -> Eitr -> Cyan -> Genelecs. The only exception is if I run it through JRiver in WASAPI mode, then its quiet all the time. Gets annoying if just browsing any site with audio, YouTube for example.

Ironically straight USB is dead quiet in whatever mode. Is this Eitr's fault or might the coax input just be bad on the Cyan unit?

Dumb question, but is USB into Eitr then into Cyan really that much better than USB direct into Cyan?

    Not dumb at all.

I don't think I can hear a difference, tried both headphones and speakers. Picked it up yesterday from a local (suuuper cheap) and just wanted to try it out.

Something, for me, went missing when I tried Eitr into Cyan. I'm not the best at describing what I hear. I dislike USB noise, and have a horrible USB source (old Macbook). But I still preferred the sound of USB straight to Cyan, versus Eitr. With Eitr it became bland and un-engaging - again, sorry to lack the words. It is just how I heard it. Sound went flat and lost the NOS romance.

New place, another problem. Eitr briefly dropout for like 1 sec when fridge is working, turning on lights/ac or even random fart but not all the time (like every 30mims) but that causes music to stop playing.

Power filter is not helping this time, if I only plug modi multibit everything is fine.

I think Eitr is quite sensitive to voltage spike or whatever happened in my room. Is there a way to solve this? Changing smps to better one? dont want to sell it just to leave the mess to others. I dont think this is faulty device tho.

I was getting dropouts and solved it by plugging my audio-gear power strip into a different outlet. Whether this would work depends, of course, on your home's wiring.

I've also been using larger external transformer (it's not an SMPS!) that I stuck in a box instead of the stock AC wallwart I don't know if this helps but maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't. I had to make a new cover for this scrap case I used, which is why it looks so good.

Could you list the specs of your transformer/ any equipment needed? Thank you.

Also your pyramid cover. I like that.

Edit ; didnt read through the last 4 pages since I fix my first dropouts. Thanks!

    My other post.

Here's the original post from the first one I made. You need the transformer, a case, a 5.5x2.5 barrel plug for the Eitr, and whatever connector or hard-wiring you want on the transformer side of things. I chose to put in an IEC socket and used a 2-pin mic connector on the latest one. I think I used an XLR connector on the first one.

My Eitr's USB port is kind a loose, unlike modi-multibit which sit tight even when I try to jiggle it.

Can this be the cause of dropouts? Anyone having loose ports like mine?

I’ve heard Kegel exercises can sometimes help with this.

it's not loose per se, but I use a fancy mod to ensure it doesn't get loose

Wow, that's much more simple and elegant than the nipple clamps I use on mine.

    Nice!
I'd call it a USB thong or USB bra (you know, to keep it in place), but both of those are actual things...

Solved (Sorry If I flood this thread with FoS)

Moved my headphone rigs away from my do-it-all PC. Same outlet, same strip, Rigs connect to Surface 3 as my Roon Endpoint. 2 days with zero droppouts. I think this improve the SQ too... I would like to elaborate but I think people might just see Im crazy lol.

Even Roon faqs suggests moving your sound system away from PC or router if possible. Im dumb. Atleast my instinct tells me it wasnt Eitr's fault and no amount of buying replacement dacs going to solve this. Tweak things with what you have first, then consider buying new one.
