LH Labs Pulse X Infinity technical measurements - DAC only

I have decided to keep it and get a trafomatic head 2 amp .

The balanced out was making my t50 mod sound thin and lacked weight. It was that way with the SE for my pioneer hrm 7 as well. However, the single end works extremely well with the LCD2.1

I was so bummed on the Omni pairing that I was ready to throw the baby out with the bath water. However I have since reconsidered.

 

Something that just crossed my mind is that you could actually have a faulty one if it really sounds that bad to you. My Xfi had some sort of ground issue with the board itself, making everything sound distant and hollow. It took LHLabs a few weeks, but they replaced the board entirely, and it sounded quite a bit better. I only did my listening through the HD650, so it could just not pair well with your other headphones.

 

I have the Pulse infinity and am scratching my head about the single ended output. Initially I thought it was acceptable, but meh compared with the balanced output. I did not think too much about it as I did not really have what to compare to until recently. I plugged Vali 1 via the RCA connectors on the back and the Sennheiser HD 650 sounds almost as good as the balanced output.

Not sure how to describe it but the LH single ended sound is smeared and distant compared to the balanced and Vali. No real correction applied, just subjectively tried to have all at the same level of sound pressure.

Also wondering if we should make a thread for the LH Pulse under the discussion forum and migrate part of this discussion there as the last few pages are not particularly concerned with the measurements - maybe zerodeefex can intercede with the powers?

 

I'm loving my vi dac which is basically a pulse x infinity + lps. Only use the balanced out with he560 and xlr outs with speaker amp. I know what you mean about the chassis being manly, zerodeefex. It's my favorite audio chassis I've owned. It makes a statement. "Listen, you porkers, you screwheads. Here is a DAC who would not take it anymore. A DAC who stood up against the scum, the cunts, the dogs, the filth, the shit. Here is a DAC who stood up. "

 

Any comparation between Pulse Infinity and Schiit Yggdrasil?

 

vi dac screen blank when I turned it on today, no sound asking lh labs what to try. also the iec socket slid 1/2" out of the vi dac chassis when I pulled the power cord to see if that would help. I pushed it back in easily but it's not a good thing :/
edit: lh labs sent me a firmware update that fixed it. I think it might have been stuck in standby mode, causing the screen to be blank and non responsive even when power cycled due to remembering being in that mode
