Massdrop has another collab IEM in the works: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-mee-audio-planamic-in-ear-monitors. Looks like dynamic driver with a twist to the magnet structure. The shape and overall build is also similar to the Massdrop Plus, which was quite comfortable for myself at least. Thoughts?

Obvious comparison is with the Audeze iSine series and those seem to have a good reputation, so IEM + Planar does work. hmmmmm

I wonder if the "planamic" driver will sound more like a regular DD IEM or closer to the iSines. One point of comparison is size and structure: the iSines are open back and very wide/large while these are more similar in shape/size to a regular IEM.

Edit: as a comparison point, the iSine's have a 30mm driver vs the 10mm on this one.

This picture in the MD discussion has some more detail.

It's definitely unusual but I'm not sure their marketing it as a brand new type of driver is warranted. I'd just call it a pleated, single sided planar driver.

Also in the discussion is a photo of a prototype driver.

The cutaway diagram does not make it clear that the magnet is a single ring and that the diaphragm and voice coil are shaped more like what you might expect of a dynamic.

To me it looks a bit like a planar balanced mode radiator.

I look forward to a little more information from @CEE TEE These seem really neat. I'm glad there is some innovation at this price point. If the FR isn't too crazy, I'll be in for a pair. Biggest concern is the sensitivity. Kind of don't want to need a dedicated amp with them.

    It honestly seems like a micro single-sided PM1 driver:https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/scrumptious-oppo-digital-pm-1-planar-magnetic-headphone-page-2 .

Depending on how they vent/damp it, the frequency response might not be as good as the $100 EDC3 but the timbre and distortion will probably be quite a bit better.

Measurements posted at MassDrop in the comments and on the main deal page. Great looking THD with quite a bit of low end. Probably great to EQ.

Looks a bit too bassy for me. Hopefully that 4K peak isn’t edgy.

These look way too bassy and dark for me. :(

I may cancel this drop unfortunately.

I debated getting these, but since I already have the isine 10 I will wait on comparisons before potentially selling them and getting these instead. I like the isines for what they are but they are fairly impractical and not terribly comfortable.

Got these in yesterday and boy are they shouty. It's such a weird and uneven FR. Reminds me a bit of when I heard the LCD-XC of having someone shouting directly into my ears. The silicone tips are really close to the nozzle and have a short stem compared to other silicones. That part makes using other silicone tips a pain since they mess up the fit of the earphone itself, at least for me.

I find those oddly addictive, despite the f*** up FR.

    They are soooo off; Like listening to a concert, but unfortunately just getting a seat behind a pillar;
    Strange experience.

I wanted them to be really good....

That's a really hilarious way of explaining haha. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive to EU. Hope they are decent enough.
