Jantzen sponsors his capacitor fetish. They've probably sold most capacitors from DIY kits than anywhere else because of him.

    Troels also mentioned a few times that $$$$ XO + $ drivers > $ XO + $$$$ drivers

    $$$ SET + Ikea + $ Big Woofers + $$ castaway wide-banders and horns + one $ passive crossover > $$$$ anything

Y'all been inducted into the Big Woofer Club. Your purpose is to shout down noobs who insist that their 6" long throw mid-bass drivers from their active monitors do bass better than large woofers.

Y'all as in yahl. It's most definitely not ye all as I cringe when I hear Northerners attempt to speak Southern.

15" woofers in my 2 channels setup, 18" (need to figure out if I can fit a second one) + 4x12" woofers in my HT.

In one of my labs I use a quad of 18 inch just to handle the stuff below 50 Hz. Pair of 12 inch for 50 Hz to 150 Hz.

When we do helicopter simulations it shakes the entire building. New hires often get under their desks.

Can't do it. Don't want to lose space in the basement.

I might sell the phils and move my 2 channel rig into the theater + use saga or Freya to flip between receiver or other input. Would suck as extra volume control would f**k with my room correction settings but might be worth it to free up half of that big ass room for actual use.

My big speakers have 15" woofers and a weird 4-component horn that's roughly 20".
My sub is a horn loaded 15" that's bigger and heavier than I am.
This is all being powered by roughly 130 lbs of iron, but I've got some 4 channel class D amps coming in because my back just can't take it anymore.

Those ultra long throw woofers always have that weird, wooly, warmth to them that's certainly just distortion (tiny Neumanns and Adams) or they sound like lofi butt acne (JBLol, Kiied Your Car Cloud Rap Pro, Iloud Micropenis)

Then again, massive woofer two ways almost always microwave the mids. Two way nearfields that try for some sort of full range extension are an inherently compromised design too but many rooms (most untreated domestic rooms) just can't handle big three ways

    Apparently 18" is a compromise

Past 16" is too big IMO. Surrounds and spiders then need to be sufficiently thick to support the cone and VC. Then there is cone flex. I don't like stuff with high mechanical damping for 40Hz and up, say to 800Hz. For a sub below 40Hz, it's OK to go 18 or 20". Still, I'd rather take 15" in a super bigass cabinet for subs.

I have 2 x 18” here. Planning to add 2 more on the back of the room. These 18sounds are tight sounding subs in sealed cases (maybe too tight).
