OK, I like these a bit better. I pushed down 2-5Khz -2db at the center point. Also implemented some adjustments to address some EARS characteristics (small bump down just past 8kHz and small bump up at 9.5kHz).

This is surprising, I found the Elex's treble quite a bit more incisive/peaky sounding (particularly the 8kHz spike) even though the HD600 (which doesn't bother me at all) has a similar peak. Maybe the Elex's relatively lower presence region exacerbated the issue.

EDIT: Looking back at the original Elex measurements I'm pretty sure it was actually the 6.5kHz ring that was giving me issues, which interestingly doesn't stand out as much here.

How does HD600 bass distortion compare to HD58X? The HD58X distortion measurements look pretty comparable, though I don't know if they were originally measured with EARS or not.

Wondering if a 5db EQ bump on the low bass of HD600 would be a roughly equivalent outcome, or if added distortion will fudge it up. Don't have a HD58X around anymore to compare.

Looks like it's a wash with HD600 having less 3rd order in certain spots ~ 150Hz and 40Hz.

The stock 650's emphasis there is pretty damn noticeable once you know what to listen for, so it wouldn't be that.

This was how I measured my 58X, and they sounded as such too relative to a new 6XX (same pads, which were new, on both headphones):

This could be a very peculiar case of pinna interaction. On the "Randy" head, the 58X tends to look brighter, but still relatively dark in the mids and treble compared to 650. Or maybe something is messed up with the pair I got, which, again, I doubt given Senn's track record of QC.

Meanwhile, a fairly new HD600 I tried looked similar to the HD650. Had a bit less mid-bass and a slightly elevated response above 2KHz in general, but generally more in line with what you'd expect. I don't think I have those results saved...

Regarding this particular 58X pair: I shoved so much damping the 58X's cups that it lost all bass power. I use it with a particular EQ setting on the Senn GSX 1000 virtual surround gaming doodad box, which is usually of trash level sound quality with good VSS, but with this EQ just so happens to counteract the way I made the HD58X sound horrible. It actually made for a wonderful virtual surround implementation in the end. A whole bunch of wrongs making a right for once.

    I guess blue/purple is HD650 and white/gray is HD600...

Grey and purple, respectively. Is there a bit too much climb above 10k in this compensation now?

    Edit: scooped!

The relative differences look correct, but there's no way the HD600's response over 1KHz sits above the mid-bass hump. I'd die if that were the case.

This pair does. It's actually a little shouty and bright. Could be new pads or new prod. Ask @brencho. I actually dislike this one.

Heck, Craig's well worn HD600 with the driver foam missing chunks had better tonality than this one.

From my experience old pads sound better on HD600. When I had both in house I took the new pads off HD600 and put them on my HD650 (sounded better) and put my old HD650 pads on the HD600 (also sounded better).

This would be wonderful as the general consensus is something like "I love the FR of the 58x but it just doesn't have the detail." But how does one go about convincing Massdrop?

This could be interesting, I just noticed that Massdrop now states that the HD6XX is made in Romania instead of Ireland. Am I late to the party or is this new? If it's new, would be interesting if something has changed soundwise.
