They also make smaller models BB-8 and BB-10.

The Klipsch VF-36 in the nude. Not a very attractive speaker without the cover. Removed the grilles for repair and saw the drivers for the first time.

Those are interesting in the sense that they specs call it 97 dB sensitivity. Some folks call it a bit of a V-shaped fun speaker though.

They sound pretty good for what they are. They have tremendous bass for 6.5" woofers, I rarely need a sub for movies. They're not that great for music but they are incredible for movies. The one thing they do really good with music is imaging and clarity in the highs. Those tractrix horns are the real deal.

I bought them when I worked at best buy in 2011. They were floor models so I got them for a crazy deal, 25% below cost, which ended up being $250 for the pair. They were $599 each back then.

    That's nothing, a no-brainer decision. Good call.

At the time that was actually quite a bit for me but in the grand scheme of things it's very cheap. I had to talk the HT manager into giving me the "damaged floor model" price because I didn't have enough spare cash. Everything I had before that was <$100 from the thrift store or some nice 12" JBL towers I got for doing some construction work for a friends dad. The JBL's were too wide for my old bedroom so I gave them to my father and he's still using them. I will probably have these speakers doing home theater duty forever or until they fall apart, whichever happens first. By the end of March I will be bringing home some 1994 KEF Reference Model Three's (posted in this thread a while back, been a long time coming!) which will be part of a separate system for music only.

I'm wondering, for the severalth time, why this thread usually delights me, but the amplifier-porn thread doesn't do much for me at all. The easy answer is that porn amps, at least in pictures, are usually really fancy boxes, hifi jewellery. But isn't that true of a lot of speakers too? Well, I really don't know, but, somehow, speakers seem to have soul.

    Why? It remains a conundrum

I was going to make a direct analogy of different people liking different things/images/etc., but decided against it...

Speakers are going pricier and pricier and so does their quality. But at times it's revelatory to get back to the old stuff. Many surprises are hid in there.

My new-to-me KEF Reference Model Three. These are in beautiful condition and look basically brand new. I love the rosetta burr finish. Very excited to finally have some nice speakers to play with.

A look into the coupled bass cavity, two 8" woofers connected back to back by an aluminum rod.

I so badly wanted either these or the Mission 752`s back in the day. I am sure they still sound amazing.. dB

They really do sound so good. I definitely need an area rug and to hang up some stuff on the walls, but for what it is right now it sounds incredible. The biggest thing is the instrument separation. It's effortless to follow a bass line or guitar riff buried in the mix that I never noticed before. Also the mids are fantastic. I was so used to the Klipsch being bass cannons with no mids that I'm blown away by these.

Oh shoot. There were good back in the day and still good today. 2x8" woofers in that funky multi-chamber arrangement and they look so elegant too (the current KEF stuff looks too spacey).

Do you have the model with the bass adjust in the back?

So those twin woofers are contained entirely inside the speaker?
I'm curious what the cabinetry looks like in there.

I sold KEF back in the late 80s and I'm not entirely sure of the model number, but I think it may have been the Reference 103.3? It was basically the same configuration as @LetMeBeFrank s speakers, except it wasn't a tower, but a very large bookshelf with a built in stand. I think there was also an optional electronic eq boost box. I remember them as a really versatile speaker where classical and jazz sounded good, but they had enough punch for rock as well. They imaged like the original B&W 80x bug eye speakers, which I liked in the right room.

No, they didn't add that until 1997, these were bought in 1994. Elegant is the right word for sure.

Yes they are, you can find the manual for them on KEFs website but I'll add the cutaway from it here:
