Click on that there word "Search…" up near the top of the page, and type some meaningful terms. Then click the blue "Search" button.

We can't really do your homework for you, because we don't know what you like. But you do.

Trust me, I'm reading thru all the threads on the interweb for any info.
Just found a great thread on FB page- one guy just bought both, and did a great write up comparison.

I am confused by this line in his review: “Mode switching is instant and very convenient with no significant decibel gain when switching to the tube mode.“

My understanding is the tube mode has 12db of gain v 0db in other modes and takes about 45 seconds to warm up before the mute comes off. Which is it?

Thanks for the confirmation. It makes me wonder if the reviewer even used the unit.

Though it was a favorable review of the Freya+ it was not a very well written review especially for the website. Not very informative.

I love this part of the review: “Special thanks to the entire Schiit crew for helping to set this up, especially to the gentleman who did all the blind amplifier switching. His joke of “…and they all were the Ragnarok 2” before the reveal still has me laughing.“

While there is no perfect way to review products, it is great that Schiit takes the time and effort to have people listen to their products unsighted to help eliminate preconceived biases.

As a charter member of ultrabike's cheap bastid club, my "add-to-cart" vote in the preamp thunderdome goes to...clearance og Saga at $200.

You really didn't need to post that. You just cost me $265 with the upgraded Tung Sol tube, tax and shipping. I have been using a Vali 2 on my desktop (Modi MB, Parsasound Zamp, Totem Mite, Rythmik L12: the good part of a home office), but don't like the volume doesn't track properly at low levels. I rarely use headphones, so looks like I will be using the Saga at my home office and taking an older Modi 2, the Vali 2 and my headphones to the office.

Then you will be thrilled to hear that I placed exactly the same order for $17 less since I live in flyover country and not the beautiful state of CA. Still think you got a bargain though. Enjoy.

It is a great bargain. California is a beautiful state, but unfortunately it is not the state I grew up in. It is overcrowded, expensive, and worst of all pretentious. I would leave if not for my son and, as an attorney, I would have to start over giving up the clients I have worked hard to obtain. Then there is the problem of where to go. My friends in Oregon and Washington have similar feelings.

I guess I will just be thankful I live in the USA. For all the first world problems we have, There is no other place I would rather live.

I got schooled once at a company in San Francisco because I didn't bring my own mug for morning coffee. They didn't have disposable paper cups because they were a "green" company, and paper cups are bad for the environment. I found the way they presented this most annoying (they knew I traveled from SoCal, but they also didn't know that I grew up in NorCal). They also had three different colored bins for refuse, which to this day I still wouldn't know what went where.

You can always try SoCal mindlessness. Disposable paper cups everywhere. Throw garbage into the either the recycle or trash bin without a thought (most of it goes to the same place anyway, either the local landfill or China). Crash your Bently into a parked car even.
That guy is an idiot. Just don't even read that review and pretend it doesn't exist. The exposure is great for Schiit, but most reviews from Positive Feedback are utter garbage from people who are either deaf or dumb. It's just another variant of 1000 review from 1000 randos. The Internet is great that it allows this, but there is a downside to full egalitarianism.

I'd appreciate it more if external reviews are better curated before the links are posted to SBAF. I much prefer hearing from the members here. Even if no such impressions are available, I'd prefer that we wait and not post shitty reviews with misinformation from other sources.

the compost bin is the third prominent option in Boulder, Co.
if one fails to spend the requisite time (minutes) sorting disposals into the proper tri bins, shame and public caning are potential punishments while homeless people stand witness smoking pot and simultaneously requesting monetary donations for "food".

... I think most of Italy (and west/central iurop) is on 6/7-way waste collection, what the hell does that make us?

I live here, and I still haven't figured out which bin is for what. The dirty secret is, as you alluded to, most recycling and garbage go so the same facility, where they are placed on conveyors (either single stream or dual stream) and then sorted in order to meet the diversion requirements.

In regard to the reviewer, both he and the publication are idiots. I thought a basic part of being any type of reviewer or journalist was doing basic fact checking. Here, the reviewer should have at least checked the specs and seeing them noted that there was a 12db difference between the tube stage and other stages. Then, if his unit didn't do that, asked the manufacture why. Assuming the reviewer's unit does work as designed (which unless Schiit made a running change, it would in this regard), it then leaves only the following options:

    1) The reviewer is unable to figure out which of the three buttons on the front of the unit changes between passive, solid state, and tube;
    2) The reviewer never even used the unit and flat out made up the review; and/or
    3) The reviewer is so deaf, he cannot tell the difference in output a 12 db change in volume makes (in which case he is probably legally deaf).

Regardless of the reason, the editor of the publication should have caught the error. As much as I question the reviews in some magazines (Stereopile, TAS, Sound and Vision), I have no doubt that such a gross oversight would have never been published.

I can't comment on the new Saga's, but the closeout Saga with the Tung Sol tube is a definite step up from the Vali 2 when used as a preamp and an absolute steal. Much more transparent, with better separation between instruments and singers. I agree that it is very neutral sounding.
