So I have a 1950's console amp. It is a Magnavox 8802 PP 6V6 which was completely rebuilt and had a custom enclosure made for it. I absolutely love this amp. It is only 10 watts per channel but powers sensitive speakers very well. This amp has been with me since 2016. I bought it from the builder.

The thing is I have a lot of gear and this amp rarely gets used. So I decided to put it up for sale. Now I have several people asking me about it and one guy that is adamant about buying it. He is within driving distance of my house.

I have been trying to talk him out of it because of his current speakers. They are B&W 805's and require a min of 50 watts per channel and a sensitivity of 89db. Not a good match. So now he wants to buy speakers that will work well with my amp and still wants to buy it.

I already have sellers remorse! lol I know I should sell it but damn....

Well anyway, I committed to selling it and I am a man of my word but thought it was funny that I have been trying to talk everyone out of buying it. :)

Bad picture but here is my lovely....

Why not sell here? Most stuff like this I see ends up having a chance to go back to the original owner in a couple of years.

It's beautiful, btw. I'd totally have that in my home.

That is super cool. Hell, I'd buy that amp. But I say keep it. Especially since it seems to be almost one of a kind. Where'd you get it?

seriously, aside from selling some HD600s to buy HD650s I've never had a second thought about anything so far.

chill and stop thinking like this stuff (as pretty as that amp is...) as jewelry.

I didn't try here because I am new to the site and not considered 'friend' status yet. I didn't think it would be good form. I have it up on local selling site but pending this sale, if he does not go through with it (the buyer) I may take it down and just keep it. My wife who has zero interest in anything audio was shocked when I told her I had it for sale. Even she likes it but I suspect it is more for the looks than the sound. lol

The amp was built by Dave Ricciardi (he is ok with his name being given out) He made some improvements to the amp during the build and then sold it to me. He at the time was building amps for sale. I think he sold around 12 amps, all different types. If he is still doing it though I don't know. I tried reaching out to him for a commission build (for another person) but he didn't seem interested.

It has that chrome+blue 1950's "home of the future" look to it.

edit: literally one of the first google image search results for 1950's kitchen fridge...

If I had an amp like that I'd probably go nuts trying to find aesthetically matching components... or wind up even deeper in the DIY rabbit hole trying to make my own.

Wow...I've been staring at that thing for like 10 seconds. Gorgeous!

And yes, I've definitely had intense sellers remorse. Mostly stuff I sold during my childhood that I wish I still had either because it skyrocketed in value (complete set of pristine first edition Pokemon cards) or because I would've wanted to play with it with my kids (Star Wars and Batman figures).

I would err on not selling it myself - life moves and priorities change but some things linger = this seems like an amp that will linger with you.

my own remorse - selling my LEAK stereo 20. My first real audiophile experience when I was in college. My then GFs BIL lent me one he had in storage, I ran a very simple rig - TT ( rega 1) - phono - volume pot - LEAK - small monitors. Still recall the "zen" moments listening after a long day studying/working . I then found a very sad version but the OPTs were still perfect. I traded my dining room table & chairs for the amp ( that was what laps are for ) and set about restoring it. It was magic and my most beloved piece of gear. Then one day life had happened and the kids came along. Not an issue before the oldest started crawling but soon the amp took a comfy resting place in the cupboard , a few years later we had our second kid and 7 years had passed and the amp had never been used - we were moving and it was time to lighten the load. After much deliberation, I sold the amp .... I still miss that amp and my oldest is about to finish college himself. Truth is, it probably sounds warm and fuzzy compared to the gear I use today and would most definitely not be a good match for the Maggies, but the memory lingers..dB

@dBel84 Yeah I have done the same in the past. I regret selling a few items as well. I have even purchased back one amp that I sold after it passed through several other people.

I'd love to keep this amp but I ask myself why? Well it's a beauty and it's one of a kind...but it just sits on display. I replaced it as my 2 channel listening amp with a Golden Tube SE-40 with Sonic Craft SE40REL+ over a year ago. The SE-40 having more usable power and sounding fantastic makes me happier. I guess I'm a little attached to it but I'm going to sell it. Knowing that it might actually be enjoyed makes me happy. Seeing it just sit here like a shrine is a bummer.

When downsizing my living room audio setup, I gave a nephew my Citation 16 power amp. While he promised it a good home, I really wish I'd have rebuilt and kept it.

While I don't miss the rest of the setup, having the lights dim every time I turned on the amp was kinda endearing.

2 ways of looking at it:

    - 1 of a kind, hard to replace, vs how much is the amount actually worth to you? Ex $100 vs $1k vs $10k means different things to different people.
    - End of the day it's all just stuff and there are lots of other artists and craftspeople out there who can make cool stuff for you.

One of the best looking pieces of electronics I've ever seen btw... I actually thought about doing something similar with my BH Crack when I built it but after realizing how much time (and maybe money) it'd take, I let it go. And what I was thinking of doesn't even look half as good as what you have here.

I put my OG Saga up for sale with some nice tubes. Figured it'd sell quickly. I am SO glad it did not because I stuck it back in the system after wondering why the whole thing just felt a bit "flat" with Freya S in place of it. Everything came rushing back as soon as I put Saga back in.

Don't know what it is, Freya S sounded fanfuckingtastic with a pair of Aegirs I was trying out. Just a synergy thing is all I can come up with, that or the SE outs of Freya S are like the SE outs of Yggdrasil A2 - just not at the same level as the balanced outs.

Thanks, man. It's the one of a kind thing that makes it so hard. I have better amps in my collection but this is the one that grabs everyone's attention. People that come to my home are always drawn to it. Honestly, I priced it fair and most likely could have asked for more but in the end I'm selling it for my 'don't want to sell it but fair IMO price' and as it turns out it is being bought by a local guy who I found out has been wanting this amp since the first time he saw it 4 years ago! He told me today that when he saw it four years ago he decided if he ever saw it for sale he would buy it. So I suppose it is going to a loving home.

    Packing her up tonight....sigh. :)

Drove a 1990 Honda Civic hatchback Si in high school from Junior year to when I started college. Babied the heck out of that car.

Sold it thinking a newer car would made me look cool, hah!

Now i’m trying to find one that’s not rusted to hell or needs everything replaced. Recently, one sold for $10k and had 60k miles on it.

I have a group of friends that all they do is buy, work on, build up Honda Civics. They are crazy about that car.

I've had five of them. A 99 Si, an H22 (prelude motor)-swapped EK hatch, a 2003 coupe beater, a 1999 beater, and my pride and joy, a 2018 Civic Type R. I have the 99 beater for winters so the R stays in the garage from Dec-March. It's incredible on a track, but shit that is expensive living.
