Those look even bulkier and less ergonomic than the FDX1...

    @Hands
In lieu of an FDX1/FD01, I’d recommend performing the simple version of @La Cenric ‘s Periodic BE mod. Super easy to do. Iems are light weight and can be worn down or up. Build is cheap ass compared to JVC though. Sound wise it’s fantastic after mod.

Looking for a good over the ear headset for VOIP. One day a week I work at home all day and since I am IT support, that means I am on the phone all the time. Won't be doing much music listening, but I have tried a VMODA mic with my T-50's and get complaints. Not sure my on-board Realtek is up to the task of the gain. The Logitech USB on-ear headset the company provided hurts my hears after long periods and has a high clamp. Plus, I would like my own set to use at home and not carry back and forth from the office every week.

    Keep looking at:
    • Kloss GMR54X
    • Hyper X Cloud (or Cloud II)
    • Sennheiser PC 373D
I like the Kloss and Hyper X for low cost, but wonder about the mic quality. Senn is nice, but a higher price and semi-open? but the Senn and the Cloud II both have included USB, which is likely lower noise than the built in Realtek.

I do not play games, so Dolby and localization not that interesting to me. More interested in voice quality, or at least volume as the VModa Boom Pro is extremely quiet.

I don't think that you'll find a particularly high performance DD with a smaller profile than the FDX1.

I found the FW10000 to fit pretty well, but I didn't try to walk around with the demo pair.

You could try getting a basic USB mic-in adapter. They usually have less noise/hiss and better quality than whatever is built into your motherboard.

Though you don't need anything for gaming, some of the gaming sound cards to have good software for things like noise cancellation on mics.

Not sure if this is something you are willing to do, but you could use the ModMic. You stick a small magnet to your current headphone and use it as a headset.

Have any of you guys had issues connecting USB DACs to Mac laptops running recent OS versions (e.g., Mojave)? With my OL DAC, I have to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable in order to make a connection. Interestingly, the orientation matters and the USB-C end of the cable connected to the laptop must stay inserted while the other end is unplugged/replugged. This sometimes happens with my Fulla 2 as well, although lately it has been connecting on the first try. Not a huge deal, but definitely cumbersome to have to fiddle around with the ports all the time. Any experiences/tips would be appreciated. I don't want to add an external USB hub to my chain and would prefer a software/settings based solution. Thanks~

@monacelli I had a slightly different problem when I upgraded my MacMini to Mojave over the weekend. When I was trying to play the Quobuz app, no matter what I did the sound would come through the Mac internal speakers. I checked the system settings and updated the output to Yggdrasil Gen 5 USB again, but it still wouldnt work. I tried restarting, (twice) and still couldnt get the sound to play through the DAC. Finally I went into the Quobuz settings where there was an output selection that had been reset to something other than the DAC. So it seems like the Mojave update reset a few settings to default, even some non-apple apps. Maybe your solution is to go back through and touch all of the sound settings again like you would with using it for the first time.

BTW, my Fulla 2 always needs a power cycle after I reconnect my phone to it or music will play only through the internal speaker. It's always been that way. Using a Moto phone w/ USB C port

I have had numerous USB-C problems on my MacBook Pro including the power lead connecting and disconnecting (i.e., registering a charging connection then dropping then reconnecting ad infinitum). Anyway, I looked this up and it's a known problem and resetting the SMC worked for me - guidance here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201295

I'm in VOIP meetings most days of the week and just replaced an old dilapidated headset with a Jabra UC Voice 550 duo. It's on ear and very lightweight so you don't notice it on your head. Mic quality is really good for the price and the drivers is tuned towards voice dialogue and it has USB connectivity. It won't set any records for audio playback, but considering the affordable price I'm quite impressed with how good the microphone is and how clearly everyone can hear me compared to the cheap headset I've used before. I've tried checking out headsets that excel with both music, gaming and VOIP and that doesn't seem exist. In that situation the antlionaudio mic does seem quite nice compromise if you have a headphone that is comfortable and sounds really good. If you get one let us know if it is any good?

Just wondering... for folks who have heard the various open-back ZMF headphones, how would your rank them in terms of how open sounding they are? thanks.

I can't rank them but I think Verite has most spacious and open soundstage of all ZMF if that's what you are interested in

    V first definitely.

Not sure between Aeolus and Auteur, but maybe Auteur is the least open?

The intentional wood overtones tend to mess with that sort of thing too, with the softer woods sounding more concert-hall like and the harder ones sounding more open.

My cherry Atticus sounds like a small-stage theatre.

There’s a 25% off code - BLEMBLOW - you can apply to drop the blemished ones to $150 and a 40% code for the regular ones - AUTUMN - that drops those to $200.

The Verite is more spacious than the Auteur. I am lucky enough to own a DSHA-3F and with that amp the Verite projects sound in a way that is cavernous - I don't mean that in the sense that it's absolutely huge, I mean that in the sense that you are in a very large cave, with a lot of the acoustics appearing in different places, and coming at you, or appearing and staying where it started and vanishing, or being enveloping - all of these qualities are, at times, hugely impressive. Listening to the right kind of complex electronic music, analogously, you might think about a firework show in a thunderstorm, during some glacial calving, whilst you plug yourself into the mains.

If you listen to electronic music, then the Verite comes recommended by Zach for precisely that genre (the sub bass is a step up, quality-wise, from the Auteur, but the Auteur wins in bass quantity.) If you're more acoustically minded then perhaps the Auteur which is tonally beautiful. Would recommend trialling at least both those two transducers before you jump in to your first purchase in the ZMF range.

At time of writing, I feel that if Zach could make a headphone with the micro detail, layering, bass quality, and spaciousness of the Verite, and the tonal balance and bass quantity of the Auteur then that would be an absolutely outstanding headphone.

2nd-hand Gilmore Lite Mk II vs Asgard 3. Anyone who can comment/compare? I have an HE-4XX (probably upgrade to Verum 1) and an HD-6XX. Fed by Modi MB + Eitr for now.

What’s the consensus about buying used turntable carts? I’m looking at a Ortofon with 40 hours for about half the price as new. Is it a bad idea to buy used carts?
