LFF's review of the Jupiter makes it seems exactly what I'm looking for- a universal reference. A uerm type sig with a bit more bass, particularly sub bass would be just my cup of coffee.

Oops sorry guys I meant the Lyra. I liked the lyra. The jupiter was good too but I felt like the lyra was better. I talk to LFF and he said I have to roll tips to get the best. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance. :( (I want my pirate emojis!!)

Have to agree about the noble 5 being U shaped it definitely tilts the top and bottom up.

I haven't heard (alas) a UERM, but would the ER4S be worthy of consideration for the OP?

I had the same thought initially. The ER4S is amazing for its single-driver clarity, is pretty damn "neutral", and has a boatload of detail, all of which are strengths for UERM, but UERM is worlds away in terms of imaging. Also, it takes quite a bit more finesse to get the bass to sound right with ER4, and I feel like it still isn't as good as UERM.

As for a universal-ish UERM, Noble 4 seems promising, but I have concluded there is no Dana, only Zuul.

Could you compare and contrast the lyra and jupiter please?

A UERM without the treble fatigue and with some sub-bass, would be great.

Also, has anyone heard that new ie800 high-end dynamic driver iem that Jude did a review of everything except the sound?

Leaner than UERM with lava hot treble.

Sorry it's been a while since I a/b/C 'ed them I do remember there being a congestion of the upper mids lower tremble on the Jupiter.

Just a disclaimer I don't really find the uerm bright.

I second Merv's suggestion of Fischer DBA02, etc. Rockit R50 is my fav for the Ety tri-flange tipos.

I think the dba02 et al, will be bass shy for the OP who found the noble 4 to be bass shy for him.

It seems like there's quite a range of impressions for the Jupiter, hmm.

also, the AK T8ie was the earphone Jude didn't review the sound for. There are a mix of impressions for that earphone in its HF thread. Kind of a wash until some more datapoints arrive.

Going off memory the Noble4 is less bassy than Rockit R50. And the price is right ;)

Check out some of Aurisonics' stuff. I have the Kicker from the new Bravo series in my ears right now and they're pretty awesome.

Great bass and good overall clarity with no sibilance. They're slightly veiled and some songs sound a little soft, but they push past their price point and challenge the JVC HA-FX1100/Sony XBA-A3/Z5 and others in that realm.

I imagine the Harmony is pretty darn good, but have never heard it (same dynamic driver as Kicker +2 BAs).

I'm digging the fun sound of the Kicker, its lack of treble fatigue, and very good isolation.

Although it still sounded like a Beyerdynamic, the AKT8IE was better than what I expected. It's smoother than any other Beyerdynamic I've ever heard. Sort of like a smoother, brighter, IE800 which is not really my taste anyways.

I bought Flare Audio R2Pro (at the kickstarter price and after a visit to their premises). Included in my visit to Flare was a brief audition of their full size headphone, the Reference R1, and I can only agree with Tyll Hertsen's extremely uncomplimentary verdict (seee innerfidelity January 2015). I mention this just to establish that I am not a Flare Audio fanboy or a schill. But the Flare Audio IEMs are in another class. My Shure SE215 are just about unlistenable after the Flares unless I'm listening to audio books or crappy radio streams. My dual dynamic driver Samsung headset is almost as unsatisfying as the Shures. I still like my Sennheiser Momentums (1st gen. circumaural) but in terms of isolation they don't cut it. The Flares can take a variety of tips. I've switched between the supplied Complys, EarphonesPlus, RHA dual density and INAIRS. In the end only the EarphonesPlus (foam) and RHA dual density (silicone) are durable, and the RHAs are just too sweaty...yuk.

I'm not sure how pricing+shipping varies globally but if you can try out the Flare Audio R2Pro (titanium) it is well worth a listen (I thought the cheaper R2A had overly thick bass and I never did try the R2S steel edition).

Caveat Emptor: my first pair of R2Pro failed at the jack after only a few weeks. Flare Audio replaced them by return of post and I added a heatshrink collar to the new pair's jack and have not had further problems. I would happily recommend these but with the proviso that you need to spend another 5 pence and reinforce the strain relief at the jack).

You've been through a bunch of UIEM's - have any of them been close to what you are searching for?

The Tenore has been a huge hit for me personally at its price. It is only lacking in technical ability for me. I've wanted to hear the Aurisonic Rockets for a while, but they don't come up for sale too often.

Rockets are better in technical abilities but not necessarily better in tonality and linearity. The treble is shelved down just a little too much. Otherwise a very fine, laid back iem.

The UERM and Tenore have stuck with me much longer than anything else has.

Many of the twfk based duals mentioned come somewhat close but are significant steps back imo. The E-Q8 does respectably well but not quite what I'm wanting. The ER-4S does well with 2 or 3 EQ points but it's fit leaves a lot to be desired.

The universals on my radar to try are the Jupiter, 64 Audio U10 (1964 Ears new name) and the dynamic driver based Mee Audio Pinnacle P1. It will be the most affordable of the bunch- supposedly around $200 when released. It's Mee Audio's flagship to replace the retired A161p. I'm told it should be their slightly warmer approach to a neutral sig.

It seems to me that more manufacturers are attempting to put out at least 1 relatively neutral model, so there is hope for something to come along in the near future.

I actually just listened to the Noble 6 at RMAF and they sounded perfect to me. I'll have to try the 5 when I am down in socal.

Noble 6 sounded overly mellow to me. Did not display technicalities of UERM level.
