    Hello, and Happy Holidays...
    :)

    Edit* Edit * Edit**

I am updating this Loaner to the 650 Headphones.
    .
This a "next generation" Loaner for my "proof-of-concept" design for the HD6xx, but maximum performance was attained with the 650.

The first test, an old HD580 was used to simulate a 650.
But the loaner and focus will be the 650.

This is probably the most cost-effective headphone mod, out of all of the units I've worked on.
    **Redacted due to sounding wrong.
I'll Just say it will impress.

This is a real improvement, with the percieved observations being:
    * improved elevated trebles,
    * increased details,
    * more vivid & clear presentation
    *Larger, more holographic soundstage
    * Deeper bass
    * more sub-bass

    Technical improvements are:
    *Cleaner CSD
    *Faster CSD decay
    *Better impuse measurement
    * Better distortion measurements
    * More extended frequency response extremes
    * Average 3db elevation in trebles area
*Bass frequency response elevated & extended.
    *No more muddy bass bloom.

    PIC Measurements:
    FR:
    Stock:
    HD650 stock FR blk bffl.jpg
    Next Gen:
    HD650 Next Gen Jan27 FR.jpg

**Edit the new FR was chosen to sound more lively without fatigue, and keeping bass extension with more trebles.

It should be noted that no one has ever been able to increase bass (with sub-bass), and trebles at same time.
Actual trebles above 7khz are elevated, not just the area of low trebles, which past mods (like the coin-mod) addressed.

    Impulse:
    impcomphd650.png

Bottom peak less dip & second peak smaller.
Subdued (more controled) throughout 100-300us range.

    CSD:
    View attachment 19287
    These are not latest CSD.

    Faster decay slices.
Decay all less than 1ms from 2k up.
Way cleaner mids & low mids area.

The headphone looks stock from first look, as it retains the stock foam, yet has more improved trebles than stock.

I am currently in a predicament, as this has always been just a hobby for me, and I have no real intention to mod, what would amount to literally untold amount of HD650s out there.
I do not even have the time I would like to tinker and make inventions.

So I consider the design to be more of an intellectual property, to be sold off to someone who lives/loves the industry, or wants to stop the impending doom of **redacted**..
    Let's just say it's competition.

    About the mod:
This design alters the driver performance, not just clean it up, which I do have a technical explanation and visual images for (intellectual property).

Looks decieving with no apparent visual changes untill you look closely.

The mod consists of using custom ordered driver modding parts, new mold material, new mold shape, new damping, and an ability for me to adjust the bass level (before I send out), without inhibiting dynamics.
No past methods of rear or front (cut hole in front) methods used, so this is very far from a normal mod.

    Requirements:
This is not a SBAF sanctioned loaner tour.
The purpose of this loaner is simply to showcase a performance increase.
As such, for those who are interested, they would accept to follow these rules, and any more is open to suggestions...

    **
have some type of measurement rig, OR reference to same or other similar or more expensive headphones.

    **
Participation is limited to members at "Friend" level and Contributors.
(Ultimately, selections are made at my discretion.)

    **
Do NOT Take apart, or make any modifications..
The top membrane needs to be there for sub-bass tuning.

I post pics, so there really is no need to open.
    Full visual disclosure posted above.

    **
Please keep unit in condition recieved.

    **
Once members list is up, I must be included in PMs, about the tracking number to next participant. This is to keep track of the tour's current progress at all times.
    No Addresses posted in thread.

** Please post when you receive the item, and send it to next member.

**The loaner period should be about a week from when you receive the headphones.

Due to holiday season, non-punctuality is understandable. Any sooner or later, just notify in thread.

    Shipping will be:
CONUS only, with possible exceptions (apologies to non-CONUS friends)

The package must be shipped FedEx or UPS ONLY (NO postal service) and insured for at least $50, with signature required.

By choosing to participate in this loaner, you agree to abide by these rules and to cover costs for loss or damage, and deal with shipping insurance.
Also take & save pics upon delivery for the item condition.

As an incentive and appreciation to those who participate, the headphones will be offered for sale to loaners first, at end of this Loaner tour.
If demand is high, I also have materials for completion of a few more units.

Impressions & observations are welcome, but also preferably in the hd650 impressions thread, to keep this one clean and focused on the shipping.

Thanks Maxx for offering this loaner opportunity to the community.

I am interested with testing your baby. Please include me if I am eligible.

Btw, just for clarification, how much do you think FULL value of the entire unit including all the mods done? I am asking this for an insurance purpose.

Is it a 580 or 650? The pictures are of the HD650? Did you mod both?

Hi again I was away its nice some members responding.

I like to state that to make a lean sounding 580/600 to sound like a 650 is normally not possible as I haven't seen anyone do, but the graph here would fool you to think it is a 650.

I got the 580 used & the mods are on my cost. I will not charge for it.
So I posted $50 minimum but if I would charge for that unit, it would be the average cost of an old unit, which is dirt cheap under $200 so no worries as shipping UPS & FedEx are good enough to not worry.

I have access to 650, but this unit was a 580, in order to be a true challenge to make into a 650.

To raise bass without added distortion.
Indeed from the CSD, they look cleaner overall than a 650 while maintaining bass level of 650.

I do believe the 650, having more naturally aspirated bass, has a better ability to be improved upon, even better than this older unit.

Ok update, I had planned to ship out both, but will instead just sell my 580 for now, and update the thread for 650 as the loaner.

I have completed the 650 mod which ended up being a more refined technique, (driver mod, new material, new mold shape and using front stock cover)..
    IMG_20200113_130359__01.jpg
It came out so well ahead of my other recent Headphone mods (Sony z7, z7m2, 7200 and others) that I am stoked that it is ahead of those in total performance.

I will update the first post next.

I'm normally not very cynical or incredulous but could you please somehow prove you aren't Maxx.

No worries, just that someone who's only ever interacted here to hype a specific person's mods up came across as sketchy (I'm not often on HF so your handle didn't ring a bell). Glad there are others who like the work, hah. Curious what others on here will think of the mods.

I just found this great post by member "Hands", in the "
    Sennheiser HD600 HD650 HD660S Analysis" thread
    :
So I am going to check and post a 45db down pic, as I am now curious to see what differences my mod has 45db down.

The few settings I differ from in CSD, were a choice to make it easier to see when making quick changes to Headphones, but then I went to 35db and to 200hz in order to be more uniform with SBAF general settings.

l'll have the loaner finally ready to ship.
I am currently making the stock cable shorter with a balanced end and and adaper to single ended.

So far I only have 3 people willing to try.
I hope more would try before loaner ends and more hear it.
Once it comes back it will stay and my other mods will be sold as I now finally like the 650.

Update, the loaner has been delayed a bit because of the final tunnig and signature completion, which was achieved just today.
It just needs to be completed in permanent form.
Some new permanent transparent material was chosen to replace paper based material, for longevity and better performance now.

The main issue was that the unit was not up to par, in soundstage depth of the best open cans.
It was still better than the stock HD650, but the aim here was to elevate it beyond denial, to complete against the best.

I am happy to report that I was able to increase treble "air" (9khz area) by about 1.5db over last version, and also increasing depth of sound, without the fakery tricks of frequency dips.
    True increased depth.

Updated FR will post tomorrow once it's completed.
So apologies for loaner delay & will update soon.

Ok, New frequency response is updated & posted in first post.

It should be noted that no one has ever been able, or tried to increase bass on a 650 version (with sub-bass), and trebles at same time.
Actual trebles of 7khz up are elevated, not just the area of low trebles that a mod like the coin-mod would do.

Loaner Almost ready for shipping out once I let some members nearby check out.
    Will update CSD next.

This version HD650 was the version with the old black screen baffle, which is known to be of the older, more "veiled" & darker version of the HD650...
This leads me to believe more progress may be possible on the silver version HD650..
