This might sound like common sense, but apparently walking in the forest is good for you.

There's apparently a Japanese practice called "forest bathing", where you just go out in nature not to exercise, hike, jog, etc, but to just be there and appreciate nature through all the senses. It's widely known that being in/relaxing in nature can feel refreshing, but now there's mounting evidence that it is _actually_ good for you, in basically every way.

For example, apparently being among greenery can actually improve immune function (among many other health benefits).

Another article points to many other study-backed health benefits to being in nature:

We all know going outside is healthful, but it's easy to get caught up in regular life and forget to go outdoors. Hope these mounting concrete benefits help convince more people to go enjoy nature more often.

Have you guys ever tried a week or more with alot of exercise?
More then you typical 5 hour per week.

Joe Rogan mentioned this on the podcasts, that he believe many people dont exercise sufficient enough. Basicly, we're like dogs. Without enough exercise we become restless, uneasy and so on. Or anxious.

For the last month, I've ran 29km on avg per week, + strength workouts. Never felt better.
I dont walk enough in forests tho.

If I don't get some kind of exercise in, it definitely has a detrimental effect on my mental state.

I've tried a couple of rounds of Smolov Jr (power lifting program) for squats. So something like ~8 weeks iirc. This was only 4 days a week, and less than 5 hours per week. But I was totally trashed by it- very lethargic at work, had trouble walking up stairs some days. Got stronger, but the process was really not that fun.

Yeah back when I was training for the SF half marathon last year, I used to run 4-5 miles every day. It felt great, and I noticed it having ripple effects in other parts of my life too: I started to eat healthier (because greasy/oily/carb-heavy foods made me feel "blah"), I slept better, I felt more alert and my productivity increased during the day, and my relationships improved because I just felt less stressed and more calm all the time. The berkeley hills where I ran were also just so nice to run through as well, lots of trees, trails that run through quaint neighborhoods, interesting mix of hills/slopes -- running there never ceased to make me feel better no matter how stressed life/work got for me.

I stopped running lately because I started to mount excuses: it's too cold, the sun sets too early. It's all bullshit haha. Writing this, reading those forest bathing articles, and your post, I think I might try picking it up again.

Also, 29km avg per week + strength is awesome. You should be proud of yourself @Prydz, and that's awesome to hear you've never felt better. Keep it up!

It depends on what someone counts as exercise.
5h a week spread out to at least 5 days of intense strength work out / HIIT / bodybuilding is about max that average human can do and see gainz. A lot more, and expect to see over training markers.
5h a week can also be spent on motor skill work, streching, yoga etc that will not tax the immune and nervous system that much.
    It's relative.
This last year I've gotten heavily into chalistenics stuff because of my bad left leg won't let me do much lifting and I kinda got obsessed with weighted pull-ups.
In the beginning I was doing about 10h a week strength training. It was useless, even reversing progress.
Now I'm doing 4..5 h a week, spread out to 7 workouts and there is progress.

I need to do more strength training. All i do right now is run most mornings with my dog, used to run long distances(12-20k daily) on my own but shorter(8k) and with the dog is much more enjoyable.

I used to run almost every day 7.5 km, with a sprint in between with my father.
I do miss running. Have to bring back Sunday mornings jogging.

Calisthenics or bodyweight lifting stuff and running are both excellent
in the way that one doesn't need much anything to do either
and therefore there can be no other alibis than laziness.
(breathing in other's farts, paying for gym membership, having to go to someplace where there is gym, having to comply with gym open time, being forced to deal with people etc)

Yeah i was thinking along those lines. Gyms are definitely not for me, i like to be outside in the fresh air. Think i'll fix up some bars for in the backyard to do pullups etc.

I saw the George st Pierre does some interesting stuff in the water and he is also a fan of body weight workouts. https://www.hydrorevolution.com/gsp/

This M$ ergonomic keyboard and using both the left <ctrl> key and CAPSLOCK remapped using SharpKeys (thanks @JustAnotherRando) have brought the numbness and tingling in my left wrist/arm under control.

On the dental front, I was having some intermittent but constant (i.e. not throbbing) pain around my lower right bicuspids/molars. After going in for a scheduled cleaning, my dentist noticed that the pocket depth of one tooth in that area was fairly deep, indicating poor gum health. I floss regularly, but have been using Glide as other floss tends to shred, but he suggested trying a lighter waxed or non-waxed floss to affect better cleaning. After a week or so using the new floss, the pain is almost gone. My sister also has pocket depth problems and after a year of so of working on her dental hygiene practice her depths have reduced.

Whats your guys view on titanium dioxide, also known as E171 or CI 77891?
New french study show 4 in 11 rats developed early stages of cancer in their guts. France is banning it from next year, and some big factories are already exlcuding it from their products. The thing is that its in alot of stuff.

I wonder how much we'd ban if we actually did that in a pragmatic and systematic way, i.e. not the California way.

When we were breeding mice by the hundreds to freeze in bulk to feed our owls, we had the unpleasant task of balancing the mix of rodent food with dog food.

Dog food is tastier so the mice grew faster, but what also grew faster was tumors the size ping-pong balls.

Yes it is highly carcinogenic. But many researchers thinks that the quantity in food and others are safe. The problem it’s multiple things has it, and the effect can be cumulative.

Started taking my dog on longer runs, he's doing great! Run about 14km with him twice a week and shorter distance the other days(1-2 rest days). Been a while for me too due to an overworked tendon which i fixed by slightly adjusting my running and walking form.

Dog still not tired though, not gonna push higher distances until i can sort some water drinking solution for him. For me it's fine i can run 20km easy without needing to drink even in summer.

One idea I've seen is to get one of those dog backpacks. The extra weight makes the run more challenging and tires them out a bit more. The added advantage is you can have him carry the water, lightening the load as you go.
    Good luck.
