So I've had the privilege of listening to @fls.audio 's SuSy Dynahi and I have to say it is one of the most unique sounding amps I've ever heard. I spent a good chunk of time comparing it to my friend's Traformatic Primavera and the way each amp presents sounds is so drastically different you would think there was some DSP being applied to one of the amps or that you were listening to different headphones. Can probably post more impressions if there's interest. Most of the comparisons were done listening to the utopia, susvara, HD800 SDR mod though I did compare the LCD4's, D8000 and HE1000v1 as well.

    Which did you like better?
I know the Traformatic Primavera is like $15,000, so was the comparison anywhere close?

So I looked into it a bit because it just sounded so different and apparently the XLR output on mine is out of phase which is why it sounded so different. I've since been listening to the dual 3 pin XLR and in comparison to the primavera, it's really hard to choose which I think sounds better since they are pretty different.

The primavera obviously has more features, impedance matching, etc. and is not lacking in power for any of the headphones we tested. I found that in terms of depth and microdetails, the primavera had a slight edge over the dynahi but the dynahi had better dynamics and macrodetail. The dynahi sounds a bit more open too, whereas the primavera sounds like it has a more defined space, if that makes sense. I'll probably get more time to demo the two later and will post impressions.

I got some spare time and reworked on my old Megatron. Totally new chassis, keeping the same innards. With just cheap Chinese tubes, it still sounds very sweet. Bass is not as tight as that of on the Carbon but the mids is very smooth.

So many tubes! Glad that you are just using cheap ones.

Love how it looks, would just put some wooden cover, of some sorts, around the volume pot, to keep with the theme. Nice job mate!

Yes, it’d cost quite a fortune if I use NOS ones... 2 quads of Mullard EL34 xf2 can easily cost $900-$1K.

I also tried to find some wooden volume knobs but my old supplier stopped working for many years. I’d probably pop in a gold champagne knob.

Another tube amp sings today. This time it’s an OTL prototype for dynamic headphones. First impression is very clean sounding, almost feel like a solid state amp! Full of power and puts out quite a lot of heat. I’m cleaning up the low frequency a bit to get deeper bass and maybe able to drive planars.

Aesthetic-wise, your amps always deliver. Very nice to look at.

Usually good tube amps sound like a good solid state amp and vice versa. Beautiful amp!

Thank you. I actually spent more time on thinking of how it looks than anything else. Not yet finished but I’m happy so far.

I’m actually surprised it sounds very close to my Dynalo. Too clear for a tube amp!

A pile of jacks fresh out of the workshop. Would serve me for a couple of years. I’m thinking about some teflon/abs 3-pin/4-pin XLR jacks too.

Also some ingredients for a couple of new builds. These illuminated switches (different brands for different materials) are the best ones I could find, after trying a dozens of them. The build quality and press feeling are way better than the rest. They would be for an all-silver and all-black amps respectively.

I haven't posted for a while, here are some stuffs I built in the last few months. Been thinking of building some T2s soon now that I've just managed to secure a batch of discontinued transistors...

I've been spending quite a lot of time on these things... 25mm thickness of aluminum. Fingers crossed that they will turn out to be as good as expected.

The CFA-3 has been my favorite dynamic amp for the last couple of years. It just sounds so wonderfully with planars, especially the Abyss. I spent it with my friend's Susvara and while I have never been a fan of Hifiman, I gotta admit they sound damn good. This is the one with everything packed inside a 300mm depth chassis.

Holy crap, that's epic! The organisation and layout of everything is inspired. Any magnetic-induced-hum from the proximity of the transformers?

Whoa! How did I miss this!

where do you source transformer components?
