Figured out why AIMP was lagging so badly, for anyone who might care. It was the remote app for Android screwing things up. I removed the plug-in from AIMP and it is now working really well, definitely a player I can recommend. It is free, can do tree view of folders which is a must for lazy c*nts like me who refuse to tag thousands of albums properly, and has a good looking interface. Selectable output (unlike Clementine, or maybe I just couldn't find them) also.

Small $10 discount this weekend on jRiver Media Center. Works on upgrades/new purchases with code MAYFLWRS.

My primary player is Winamp for audio followed by JRiver 25 for everything else. I also use Pot Player, MusicBee and MediaMonkey whenever I feel the need for a change. I really like Audirvana and Roon but the license costs remain a strong deterrent.

I am currenly subscribed to Spotify Premium, Google YT Premium (includes Music), Deezer HiFi & Tidal among others. My primary sound card is a pretty ancient Asus Xonar Essence STX. I treated myself to a Fiio E3 a couple of months back. My media library (including movies) is stored partially on my home PC and on 2 NAS boxes

I'm partial to DeaDBeeF myself...it's really easy to get working with bitperfect playback on Linux, plus I like how configurable it is and whatnot.

Last year I tried this small and fairly obscure player a friend recommended called Album Player which you can download here for free - http://vv.uka.ru/aplayer_eng.html. For some reason 64bit version sounds quite better and cleaner on my Win 10 so that's the one I would recommend. Compared to the jRiver and Foobar2000 I was using before it simply provided cleaner edges and a sense of better physical presence to every tone. I was hooked on immediately.

At first I absolutely hated it's last century looks, no playlists etc. but every time I switched back to jRiver I could hear loosing some fidelity in terms of less energetic leading edges and muddier sound in general. Foobar2000 is cleaner than jRiver in my opinion but lacks the body and palpability of Album Player. So I kept listening to it while searching for an option that can provide same sound fidelity in a more pleasant package. I haven't found any except jPlay mini which is: 1. Expensive 2. Not even a proper player because it lacks UI.

In time I stopped looking for alternatives because I even got used to it's old-school design and listening music by albums. I can recommend everyone to try it out. It is rough around the edges but it's completely free and it sounds superb in my experience.

I have an Apple Mac Mini. I am using Audirvana Plus. It sounds nice, but it has a problem. Some of my downloaded albums have two copies of each song instead of one. If I try to delete just one song of the doubles, the whole album is erased from the program. I am not so computer savvy . Is there a better player program I could be using? How do I clear out the extra song copies?

Anyone know of a player for Windows that works with pCloud as the back end?

When you choose 'Show Metadata' from the 'View' menu, you can check the file location at the top of the pane that appears. The first thing to check is whether the two copies in the library are referring to the same file. Also, you might have more luck finding help for this at https://community.audirvana.com/ .

I prefer listening to Fidelia on Mac, beats Audirvana pure sound wise.
Too bad Fidelia hasn't been updated for years and is not very stable and very buggy.
    Best sounding app though.

I use winyl/hqplayer/xmplay on windows (all 3 sound fairly identical at identical settings). They are so far the best I've tried yet edging out Jriver. Foobar and other players I've tried were worse.

How is foobar worse? Were you using ASIO or WASAPI?

Hi Rob. I have tried both peter's ASIO/WASAPI plugins and also case's ASIO plugin. Both of peter's plugins sound virtually identical and somewhat softened. Case's ASIO plugin actually clips/distorts. I have tried multiple versions of foobar - one around 1.3 and another around 1.5 (Stable releases). I have tried it on multiple USB DACs so can confirm that it is from the software and not from the device.

I can't say for technicalities of where exactly it is coming from, but it comes from the Audio Library used and/or task priority/scheduling. Winyl, hqplayer and xmplay all use BASS audio library which is quite well designed afaik, while foobar uses its own Library + some direct calls to windows handlers (including limiters in volume control). Not sure of Jriver.

I believe the only plugin I have is "asio support" something. And my output device is set to an ASIO driver compatible with my DAC. Should bypass the Windows mixer entirely. Haven't run into any instability issues.

Ill have to check out that Winyl, but I just use foobar2000 as it came installed. Pretty basic and good enough. I dont need album art and all that.

It doesn’t bypass the windows mixer and the asio is buggy as shit. Foobar2000 now goes through windows volume control so lots of distortion and dulling. The guy who makes it is a hydrogen audio lofi objectivist type.

winyl was instant depth that was gone in foobar compared to the daw.

No shit? Why the f**k would he do that? Changing the volume on Windows doesn't do anything when foobar2k is playing.

@dietwater ‘s advice on media players was good. BASS audio library is good daw level. Of course different daws sound and act differently. Winyl is plug and play. Just select asio in it. The fade will prevent buffer overruns.

Because the program is a buggy piece of shit? You can probably remove the component but the program is super buggy. Buggier then thesyscon xmos usb drivers and Schiit drivers if they work. Foobar2000 1.5.1 audibly made the sound much worse so I quit the program forever.

Ah gotcha. I haven't updated my program for over a year if not more. Good info to know. I'll check out Winyl later today.

Yeah it’s obvious to me foobar2000 is going something. I’ll pm you.
