Does anyone have a suggestion for the thickness and grade of sorbothane to use under the plinth and motor to minimize vibrations from the environment (and motor)?

I was just looking at the old motor base and it occurred to me that the more the motor weighs, the better (I think). One could probably get longer screws for the rubber pad and connect the two metal plates that us beta-testers now have. From what I remember, there was plenty of room inside the can for this. It would probably be good to sandwich something between the two metal plates, maybe trim a circle from the original platter mat (and poke holes for the screws) to eliminate any vibrations.

And another obvious thought I just had regarding the lack of a dust cover. I can just put a spare platter mat, or old record, or picture disc, etc. on my good platter mat when I'm not using Sol, that way the mat I put records on stays dust free.

My setup is different. I'm using Sorbothane under a 2" maple butcher block & Sol. The motor assembly now weighs 5lbs and is off to the side. I'd suggest figuring out your weights and going here.

I fitted my original motor base inside the motor assembly. There was little room to spare.

I'm using the original black platter mat for exactly that

I put a couple of 1' x 2' ceramic tiles under mine which squelched the motor noise fairly well. Be aware that motor vibrations can also be transmitted to the plinth via the AC umbilical.

That looks pretty robust! What changes have you noticed? What did you use to construct the new plug? Did you actually remove the switch wiring from the plinth? And what is the ring underneath the pulley?

I just shortened the OEM cable utilizing the stock plug.
Left the power switch in place.
The metal ring under the pulley is just additional ballast

I see that the Sol is back up on the website, just not for sale yet. I think it is a good call that they are now including a factory fitted cartridge option, but I am really disappointed to see it is the Grado Reference2 cartridge. Personally, I am not a fan of Grado cartridges, but the bigger issue is it is a $300 option. Seems like a missed opportunity to not put one of the budget superstars that are really popular (Nagaoka MP-110, Sumiko Pearl, etc) on there. I understand it is probably a supply issue though, certain manufacturers are easier to work with on the wholesale side, etc. I just know I would certainly have jumped on a more budget factory-fitted option to first try out the Sol before dialing it in for my Denon 103r.

I would have also loved the option to have a DIN connector for balanced connection rather than RCA. Would slot the Sol firmly into the high-end offerings. The lack of it makes me lose hope of seeing a high-end balanced phono stage from Schiit.

Overall though, still really excited to see the progress on the Sol.

All that is outdated. We'll update it when we start selling again.

Gotcha, thanks Jason! Apologies if that was already on the website and I have just been missing it. Super excited for the Sol relaunch, keep up the good work. Still crossing my fingers that you have something up your sleeve that will dethrone my Pro-Ject Phono Box RS phono stage. I am eager with anticipation of tomorrow's meet!

That would require they separate the audio and chassis grounds, which, at present, they are not. I'm not sure why...

I wasn't a fan of Grado carts either until the blind test which involved many carts, several Grados, Orthofons, plus Nagaoka MP110, Decca, etc. from another prior test.

Some Grados were meh. However two Grados in particular stood out with the table. The Reference was one of them and quite stellar. The other was the Red, which I believe will make it as the lower priced offering.

Were they some of the wood body Grados? I personally used the Sonata 2 for a while and never found it offensive, and enjoyed it for my casual listening setup, but really did not miss it when I replaced it. I have heard some of the higher-end wood body carts though are worthwhile.

Yup. The Reference 2mm is the entry level wood bodied. The Red is a good slightly above entry level. Another model sandwiched in between sounded like ass.

I'm looking forward to more cartridge discussion. Right now have a Nagaoka MP110. It is nice. Seeing how easy it is to set up a second arm I'm thinking about trying a Denon DL-103 moving coil or even the Zu/DL-103 Mk.II.

Cannot go wrong with Denon DL-103 or tweaked variants. Really, one does not need more than this classic MC. I have one on one of my Sol arms myself.

Is the Cadenza Bronze on the Classic 4 better? Sure it is, but that's $10k more.

My MP-110 is pretty noisy. Anyone else have that problem? Lots of hum when I get near the arm, touch the tonearm lever, etc.
