It explains how to enable high gain in settings, both confirming existence and explaining how to access it.

I've gotten to play with one a few times, but I'm not rich enough or invested enough in porta-fi to have picked one up; to my knowledge it's always been a feature of the device, but I could be wrong about that.

Quick question on DAPs in general, I have Spotify premium and I was wondering, does the player always been an internet connection to play music or have the music on the player? Can you download the music on the dap? So if I’m flying can I use Spotify for example. After reading some users on the Sony I’m considering getting it.

The ZX300 is not an android based player.

It only plays what you have stored on it.

No streaming here unless you use it as a dac/amp out of another device.

Still loving this DAP. I think the sound is excellent, perhaps not as totally organic as the ZX2, but the superior UI, balanced out, and hiss-free output make this the superior player for me. I’m listening to The Who By Numbers right now and the sound is detailed, full bodied, and musical. As a total package, this is the best DAP I’ve ever owned and until this thing craps out in a few years I have no desire to upgrade or change.

I've found that with BA IEMs, the balanced output is too dry and thin and the SE, while having better tone, is kind of limp and closed in.

The best sounding option so far for BAs (MD Plus and CA Solaris) has been SE High Gain. It gives them much more authority and better soundstage size but without the thinness of the balanced output. It makes a very noticable difference over low gain and sounds much fuller than balanced.

This discovery has breathed new life into the ZX300 for me.

On the other hand, with the JVC FD01s, I prefer balanced on high gain.

With FDX1s, I feel that SE run on high-gain is very warm, almost bloated, though SE with low gain is my second favorite after balanced high gain. SE low gain just seems to sound clearer or more forward than high gain when one doesn't need great bass. Balanced brings the power and cleans up the presentation which works especially well on high gain but balanced on low can be too dry and clean.

Honestly though, I think if SE high gain is what it takes for the transducer to sound normal, you're probably very allergic to BA timbre, of which I remember MD Plus being a pretty strong case of. You might want to go about doing it like Marv and run ZX2 instead with its focus on SE output if you must have BA in your life.

It's not just warmth, but its also punchiness. The HG on SE gives the BA some kick that makes them sound... well almost dynamic.

How come when you add new music to the ZX 300, it is not added until several days later. I added three new albums this morning and after cutting it on and off three times, and it said it was "building its database" the albums still do not show up?

Is it SD Card or internal storage?

Its on the micro SD card. I pull it out, transfer HiRez music files to card in reader, then check what is listed on ZX 300.

Strange, are you putting in FLAC files, or one giant file with an ISO/Cuesheet? When I put some DSD stuff on my WM1A it can't be a SACD Iso, it must be separate DSD/DSF files.

Transferring FLAC files, an album at a time. No DXD or DSD files this time.

Weird, let me post some possible solutions later. The WM1A and ZX300 should have the same OS interface.

I'm back, a few possible solutions:

Can you remove the SD card and put it back in while you have the ZX300 on? I would first go into setting and do Mount/Unmount SD Card first then put it back in the ZX300.

Can you confirm that the files you are putting in are confirmed to be FLAC files?

How you are browsing for your music? Are you using the Folders feature, or you are using the unit's Album/Artist sorting? Sometimes depending on the FLAC file Artist/Album name it might be weird.

If you bought it new, have you considered returning it as defective? It shouldn't be this difficult

New/removed tracks are always "built" into the database immediately for me.
