.....Stop posting HF-type nonsense everywhere please. Just use your status updates like everyone else here.

Mr. Gaspasser. What is "HF-type nonsense"? Also, what do you mean by "status updates"?

HF= Head-Fi, where the majority of posts are similar to your recent ones today, basically sharing what you are doing (with orders, shipping updates, etc). SBAF doesn’t really like those “HF” type posts because they contribute very little to overall knowledge. We post stuff like that in a status update like Facebook.

p.s. I will remove dislikes from your posts. I tolerate ignorance and appreciate you asking. I only dislike stupidity.

    Hey @Claud ,

SBAF is different from Headfi (HF) that we try to keep the signal-to-noise ratio low and provide useful information for people that are interested in learning more about the gear. Official thread post should for the most part contain impressions or relevant questions. If every member was allowed to post status updates regarding the gear, the thread will probably extend to hundreds of pages (look at headfi for example) and making important information harder to find for members. Especially for newer members like yourself, I would try not to post on the official thread if it's not pertinent information or impressions that can benefit the community. **SBAF does have separate threads for less serious stuff like movies, tv, pets, or songs you're listening to right now (one of my favorite threads)

So, statements like, "Oh BTW guys, I decided to get A instead of B" or "Just moved up in my waiting list from #999 to #998, YAY!" are considered noise in official thread page, so he's telling you to share those thoughts/ comments in the status updates that's available on the bottom right corner of the main page. Members can post silly stuff as long as you're not spamming or writing offensive stuff.

Oh another thing, if you're asking why you received a dislike from your previous statement, you're just adding fuel to the fire and attracting more dislike from members because you're essentially creating more noise by asking that question. "Read more and post less" / "Quality over Quantity" If you truly don't understand why, either read the sticky threads like this one,

or ask privately, (but nicely) we'll help you around :) I was a rando at one point as well!

    Dear Mr. Gasspasser, Sir...
I ain't got no "Update your status..." box like above. I am sorry I thought it was helpful that a member who ordered a popular Drop amp, seeking a more neutral sound, would chuck that idea after reading a boat load of posts about the Phonitor and amps suitable for the HD 800. I must admit the THX amp gets good reviews, but I think the Phonitor would be a better buy for the long term, and in a pinch be a better match with the ZMF Eikon and occasionally the HD 800.

Try clicking on your name upper right. Go to your profile page and update your status in the box. There are a couple of routes to the status update box.

I am such a Doofus, I needed a map, but I finally found it. Thanks for the education GP. I don't think I will do a comparison of the Phonitor E to my Cavalli LC v2. I will do a short comparison here of my Stratus to the Phonitor in two or 3 weeks. Break in don't you know.

Got my SPL Phonitor E today. It reminds me of my Stratus--CLEAN, CLEAR DYNAMIC, and just superb defined bass. I did not think SS could sound this good. Just my initial impression. DAC is Cord 2Qute. Its my 2020 upgrade plan to replace it.
Just using balanced output connection. All dip switches and Matrix off. I will have to rearrange my computer desk, then post a pic in this thread.
Update: I did post a picture of my computer HiRez system in the correct place. (I'm learning). Will have to post a revised pic there later next week as I will have removed the little Cord DAC and replaced it with A Matrix X-Sabre Pro MQA. I am still glad I bought my Phonitor E. I did not think SS could do soundstage before listening to it in my system.

So it seems I'll be taking the plunge on a Phonitor 2 soon. Has anyone ever tried balanced headphones off the back xlr outputs with an adapter? Any difference from simply using the TRS jack up front? I can't seem to find any information on how the back outputs are actually powered.

I've had good results asking SPL directly - prompt, detailed information.

The X-feed matrix is SE, so it really depends on the actual amp topology. To me it looks SE. You can check the continuity between R- and L- wires to see whether it's only a balanced jack.

I've tried the balanced connectors with Focal Clears and Focal Utopias. In the end, I prefer the TRS jack more. Bass becomes loose with both headphones and dynamics suffer. I think the XLR outputs are high impedance and therefore unsuitable for at least low impedance headphones.

I never used the TRS jack because I read it blows them up if you're not careful with volume or something. Do you have to do anything special so it doesn't blow up? I'm not exactly a careful person and may forget to do something.

mute the amp or switch to an unused input, a precaution I try to take with all of my amps...

Just mute it. I have the Phonitor X and use the TRS jack. The mute switch is an easy thing to remember because the lights on the VU meters turn to red when the headphone output is muted whereas it's yellow when it or the pre-amp is active. Just remember the position and the switch that mutes it. I've used mine so much that the labels have rubbed off over time which has been about 6 months.

I wonder why hasn't someone created a TRS jack that doesn't allow shorting. Something where the contacts don't move into place until the plug is fully inserted.

A chassis mounted mini-xlr would solve many of these problems. I guess it's not as sound mechanically as the ubiquitous TRS jack and requires one to obey a certain orientation to plug in, but I'd like it to replace 1/4" jacks.

The output of the DAC goes to the input of the headphone amplifier.
