As the title says i am looking for a E88CC. I have been refraining from doing this topic but the prices from the usual places are a bit on the steep side even for used tubes.

I am located in Europe, in case that makes a difference.

    Thanks for helping.

I still have a NOS Telefunken Cca, but these are even more rare/expensive as the E88cc type...

I use an E88CC with my MCTH. But I'm hardly listening to it at all after getting SW51+. A while back my original tube developed some noise issues. I also tried to find one here, but ended up buying one on eBay for around 100 euro.

IIRC the noise from the original tube wasn't as bad when I tried it later. I can check it again when I get home if you're interested.

Thanks mate but my previous tube also had a bit of a ringing to it and I would really like a noise-free one this time.

I am very thankful for the offer.

    Cheers

Please be aware that there are reissue Tel E88CC tubes out there. I found a pair on B&H Photo website. I don't think you will find a real NOS Telfunken E88CC for less than $200 each. I might sell you one for $200 because you are a Friend on this forum, but shipping and customs to Europe is too much trouble.

I have plenty of ecc88 here. Most of them Phillips SQ. Do you need only Telefunken?

$90 for a pair is a bargain, if they're authentic. You probably already know, but check that the diamond on the bottom is convex rather than concave (the latter indicating it was faked by laser etching).

Edit (re below): Ah ... that's why they're so cheap.

Gents above have mentioned ecc88, whereas you've stated you're after e88cc - but I'll play devil's advocate and suggest that though I've never heard the latter, there might be enough of a family resemblance to make it worth a crack on the former (way cheaper) from a reputable European seller.

Been real happy with Tele ecc88 in my MCTH.

    Do you know any @Biodegraded?

That would indeed become very expensive and i cannot afford as much right now but i thank you.

I never tried Philips, i think. Only E88cc Telefunken, Siemens (which i use now) and several ECC88 Russian ones. So i have no idea how good they are :)

As you can see from this thread getting good NOS tubes is not an easy affair. I spent way to many hours getting some basic knowledge and get a feel for the NOS tube market with its many pitfalls (fakes, importance of the year of production and factory, rebranded items, compatible types and so on).

May I suggest you also take a look at the E188CC type?
A lot of people don´t know these can be used instead of E88CC; they have better longevity and there are some excellent sounding types around starting from about 50 € and really good ones can be already had for around 125 €.
I got my headphone amp, which is really picky (Trafomatic Head 2), finally quiet with two NOS Siemens E188CC gold pins. Soundwise they are there with the top.

Don´t narrow your search to Telefunken. Siemens and Lorenz sound often similar. The english tubes often are a bit warmer and smoother sounding. Dutch ones are halfway in between (Philips SQ, Miniwatt,...). Of course this is an extreme generalization; but a possible starting point.
Older Teslas may be worth a look into too, but for the E88CC family of tubes they are a bit less interesting, except when you are on a low budget.

Buying on ebay is like a bad lottery if you don´t know exactly what´s up.

Philips SQ often are very good and worth a serious consideration if you have a good source. Possibly you trade a tiny bit of resolution and holographic qualities for a bit more euphony/musicality compared to prime Telefunken and Siemens tubes.

If you live in NL you can test some tubes at my place and test a few. I have some in stock but hardly use them.

Given you are a friend we can go 50 Euros a pair of tubes if they meet your standards.

Maybe @drgumbybrain can help with those Philips. Depending if its Fortaleza South America or Europe :)
My Siemens works well but i will, as you advise consider the Philips SQ as well.

    Thanks!

Hey Deep. Thanks for the attention but i live in Sweden. Really thankful for the offer though.

I have a spare Tung Sol 6C8G and metal adapter I used with the MCTH for awhile. @Phantaminum recommended it and happy I went that route. You'd need a spacer as well.

I'll put up an ad if that's of interest for you.

The tube resides inside the amp which is very tight in space so unfortunately your (very) generous offer won't work for me.

    I am really thankful mate.

Back home now. My Telefunken came from a seller in Ontario. From Europe I had a good experience with ebay seller filamentum (Belgium), but he doesn't look to have a Tele ECC88 or variant currently. I presume you know you have to watch that some tubes branded Telefunken might actually be made by somebody else - this one is actually a Siemens (the Siemens & Halske Munich factory code =I= is visible in some of the photos).

Like stated, thanks to some amazing online people i found what i wanted and more.

An old Telefunken e88cc and the Phillips SQ are indeed amazing.
Also got 2 Russian 6N23P Reflector tubes that, although exciting and giving more punch, messed the highs a bit. More exciting but less musical and i prefer the latter.

For last i got a fake Telefunken e88c that i have yet to test.

I can't help but be super thankful for the suggestions.

Mods can close it and thanks
