Well then, if you're running a separate ground lead from the chassis ground post to the phono pre and disconnected the ground leads on the AS cables, it looks like you have the bases covered as far as you can. Of course, the phono stage probably has the grounds shorted together internally as most of them do, but there's nothing you can do about that.

When holding each side of the platter is there supposed to be a slight movement side to side or is it supposed to be tight? I would have thought there should be no movement here.

Mine has a little. I asked and they said it was normal.

The Sol has an 11" arm....that dust cover is for 9" arms. So, no, it won't fit.

It's a simple design, not hard to make. Somebody should make some...

Understanding that it will not completely cover the arm and cartridge, would it clear the arm height at least? More concerned about keeping dust off the matt. Thank you.

It might not clear the Sol's tonearm lifter.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say MAYBE. Depends on how you set it up since mine can vary a bit from the next guys, with the adjustments and all. You can make the tonearm rest as high or low as you want as well, so it should help to fit. But it should be close enough to what I measured.
I get barely above 1” from platter to top of headshell. If you also try to account for the D shaped pivot in the back, it'll add around 1/2”. that's if your pivot cup pin (that's adjustable) is flush with the top and not sticking up.

Really the angle is the thing I'd be worried about the most, since it's not exactly straight. And the tonearm rest is pretty wide which may bump into the cover. But that too can be adjusted slightly to twist. I think anyway, I was fiddling the other day with it trying to fine tune it and it seemed you could spin it around. (But don't hold me to that twist adjustment, since I had trouble with it going up and down smooth and it may have been because of the twist being off enough for it to be finicky.)
Here are a couple quick pics I took. If you need any other angles or measurements, I'll try my best.

You could also just get one of these if your only worried about a mat cover... https://www.hudsonhifi.com/collecti.../acrylic-turntable-mat-transparent-lp-slipmat

Hey there ripblade, I may have an idea for a Sol dust cover:

I looked up a maker of custom acrylic display boxes called ShopPOPDisplays and talked to the owners about customizing an existing design of theirs. Want to hear about it? The existing model is a 1/4" thick acrylic "5-sided box" (no bottom) that fits over a black acrylic stepped base - seems perfect for a tt base and dust cover if you could have them cut recessed handholds on either side (say, 1/5" x 4") and a similar cutout for cables on the back side. Owners got back to me about it and said it'd be about $160 for a single order (without cutouts) - BUT, if I could get a minimum order of 10, they'd do the cutouts and probably give us a volume discount.

I measured the Sol and came up with the following dimensions: 8"h x 18"w x 18"d. Anyone want to back me up on those measurements or comment on it?

Anyone here interested? If so, go to ShopPOPDisplays.com and look up item # CS001ABBK. Then reach me at [email protected] and we'll see if there's enough of us. I've never worked with this vendor but they seem pretty expert and have a lot of positive sounding customer reviews.

This is basically what I did for my VPI Classic. I looked up the measurements of the dust covers sold online, went to my local acrylic shop that makes them for shop displays, and had them make be a 4-sided box (no rear or bottom) for about 1/4 the price the dust covers were going for online.

Those dims don't work for me, but they may for others, so good luck!

**Correction: oops, I meant the dimensions of the handholds/cable cutout should be about 1-1/2" x 4".

Hmm...what dimensions did you come up with?

I was on that site yesterday looking at item CS001 (the one with out the base). Once my SOL shows up and I see how it best fits on my stand I was going to order a custom box. The prices I was seeing were around $107 for a case that is 15 x 17 x 8. I am not sure if that would fit currently. Thanks for sharing the information you found.

Just took delivery of a Zu Audio DL-103 MkII. It's a heavy cartridge at 14 g. Installed it on the Sol, but to apply downforce at the recommended 2.5 g the counterweight had to go all the way to the back. Just made it.

The combination works very well, but it's brand new so giving it a few hours before playing with adjustments. Anyone else using this cartridge?

Great choice. I recently went with a Denon 103r since my shop had in stock and they installed, but really wish my budget could have accommodated one of the Zu modified ones. I had a chance to hear the MkII at least at my local shop on a Linn Sondeck LP12 and was very impressed.

At least with the stock Denon, it takes a lot of break-in time, so give it lots of time before passing too much judgement.

I have mine spread out laterally. Sits comfortably on a tile 12" x 24". This is forced by the constraints of the shelf it sits on. In time I'd like to explore adding an arm pod in order to park an additional arm next to the platter, so even these dims - and the shelf - might change.

Yup, I see what you mean; I get why you'd want to minimize the cover size. My setup is more of a square configuration, and I don't even have a proper rack yet, so the measurements I posted assume no particular space constraints. Good luck finding something!

Hey chifanpoe, I'm glad you went on that site! The CS001 model was the first one I looked at for a cover, but then I thought, someone will probably smack that thing around trying to dust it, so I drilled down and found the CS001ABBK model with a box fitting snugly (I assume) over a base, and that looked better to me. I also asked about the cutouts because it'd minimize touching the cover (fewer pawprints) and of course, for the cables. But they didn't want to set that up for just one item (min. 10), which is understandable - so I assume if we get a group, it'd be cheaper (I'll check about that).

About the dimensions: I rechecked and found that with my setup, an 18" depth would provide a clearance of about 1", front and back. With an 18" width, I measured only about 1/2" clearance left and right, so maybe increase that width to 19". The height, which I originally posted at 8", could actually be less, such as 7", or even 6". The handhold cutouts, which I suggested at 1-1/2", allow for a 1/4" step for the cover to fit over - so the net clearance there would be 1-1/4" with the cover mounted.

I hope you get your Sol soon - looking forward to any feedback about what you're getting for measurements once you've set it up. It'd be great if we could pull some other Sol owners into this, right?
