But remember to power off the pi using software, don't just pull the plug!

So, I'm feeling like a dummy but I just got my I2S RJ-45 adapter and I have no idea where to plug it. I appreciate that one of the side panels of the case has to be removed, but I can't find a location on the Pi2AES where the new board fits...

On the straight connector in the side opposite to where all the other audio outputs are.

Thanks, but I'm still confused. The straight connector has lots more pins than the adapter connector, the adapter is wider than the narrow side of the Pi2AES board, and finally it would seem that the adapter might plug where the pin shunt is that tells the Pi2AES to power the Pi as well.

just line up the two mounting holes where the header is. If they’re aligned the connector will drop onto the proper pins.

Did we include a pair of 18 mm standoffs with the RJ-45 board? you will need those to be able to put the case back together.

Disregard the 2 pin connector, I'm just tapping 5V directly. This is not needed for the RJ-45 board.

Hum... my RJ-45 adapter is wider than yours, it looks as it if has an extra chunk of plastic on the side.

Is this the proper Jameco adapter for the Pi2AES running Pi3 B+? Link
Currently running this amazon adapter: Link
But wanted to try the Jameco since @Clemmaster raves about em and we have similar setups.

Yep. There are two versions, 2.5mm and 2.1mm plugs. Your link is to the correct one (2.5).

You can use it just to power the HAT, but at 24v and 500 mA the Jameco runs both my Pi2AES and 3B+ just fine and might sound a little better than the two-box solution I first tried, with a separate 5v 1A linear wart powering the Pi. If you have any extra peripherals on the Pi, though - a screen or USB drive - they might want more power (I haven't tried).

Mine had the same thing, just bend it off. It's an extra piece of pcb only.

I don't really 'rave' about the Jameco. It's just a good, cheap and convenient PSU that doesn't send a lot of high frequency crap down the power line :D

The Pi2AES has a lot of careful filtering built-in, which makes it work well with pretty much any PSU. The benefit is more related the noise spreading to adjacent components, or not.

Oh, looks like they forgot to cut one side of the board :p

You can use an Exacto knife and some bending to cut it off.

my apologies, that is supposed to be snapped off after production. I have forwarded this photo to my production manager in the hopes that it will create much embarrassment for such a silly oversight!

Now a different problem. To plug in the RJ-45 adapter I had to remove the power jumper, assuming that the adapter did that job as well. But it does not seem to, the system does not boot up.

There is a 2- pin header marked psw. Put the jumper there.

Just for clarity, the 2 pin jumper is on the left end of the RJ45 adapter. If you were running a single power supply with the Pi2AES before you installed the RJ45 adapter, you will have probably removed the jumper you need in order to install the RJ45 adapter.

Ta-dah! It works, I2S to Sonnet Morpheus, AES to Yggdrasil. Thank you everyone for the help!
