But I’m being told my subjective impressions are not wanted here . So you must agree with me .... or not

This site for audio is absolute shit ,

Someone here said the special 40’s are a forward speaker . Lol . What a joke . Ls50’s are forward but the Special 40’s are not .

This site with its moronic anal retentive fake audiophiles can f**k itself up the ass.

Likely not. Possibly used, and when the time comes I will be watching for one.

The mids are a little forward but after after getting a new amp the Special Forty's have fantastic soundstage. First time I actually feel like I'm at a live concert.

We are anal retentive, we would never let anyone near our ass.

If this statement means you’re done here, let me know I’ll kindly change my dislike to a like.

Sigh, no. You said it yourself about the bass on Vidar. What is it with the hyperbole?

    @zerodeefex, launch please

It's no hyperbole. It's that much better. Biamping with Vidar for the bass would make sense, but everything else about it is flat and boring. Part of that is its limited in microdynamics compared to Aegir.

I haven't personally because @toddrhodes basically did it so I didn't have to (earlier in this thread). He ran mono Aegir's on his Dynaudio Focus 260's (4 ohm) and easily drove them into over-current protection. I have the same Focus 260's in my office system being driven by a single VIdar and I've only once been able to drive it into over-current protection but that was after 2 or 3 hours of jamming at really high levels (I was in other parts of the house) and I must have hit a track that was just right to push it over the edge, a quick power cycle and track change and it ran for another couple hours until I was finished working around the house. I (and many others it would seem) want a pair of Aegir like amps that can do this same thing with a 4 ohm load without going into over-current protection... The only reason I even mention it is because a while back (well before the pandemic hit) Jason hinted at possible doing a higher power version at some point in the distant future...

For Dyn's S40's are pretty forward, but definitely not like LS50's...

I prefer one Aegir over two, at least on my 99dbSPL at 1.83Vrms sensitivity speakers. Bass articulation and slam is slightly better with the x2 mono setup, but tone and timbre are better with a single Aegir running in stereo. It's tradeoffs. I chose the latter because I am a level 97 level audiophile.

I'd probably go with the CDi1000 before the dual mono Aegir. This would be kind of a major swing in the opposite direction; but I'm cheap.

I also got my single Vidar to to shut down on one occasion, while playing music at a much higher volume than was sensible for my ears. Whether it was from over-current or overheating, I don't know. I shut it off for a while and took that as a clue that I should probably reign in the volume.

With the pair of Aegirs, I have not felt the need to hit anything close to the volumes that shut down my former Vidar. I can't say whether that's because it just sounds so amazing at regular volumes, that I don't feel a need to turn up the volume, or whether I drank too much beer the night I got the Vidar to shutdown, that I though I was at a Who concert.

Question for the guys getting the Vidar into protection...ya'll got enough airflow around the amp? I'm really surprised to read that as the amp doesn't run hot.

Single Aegir = moar 2nd harmonic in relation to 3rd harmonic. The Aegir's distortion is actually very low for a speaker amp, as long as it's not pushed hard. Balanced operation usually results in more cancellation of even order harmonics than odd.

I believe that a small dose of distortion, and the right pattern of distortion, may sound more correct sometimes.

If you go to the first photo in this shared album, you'll see my current gear between my two speakers: https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0BJtdOXmGii1rp

I don't recall exactly how the Vidar was positioned, but it was on the same cherry coffee table between my speakers, with nothing over it. I'm guessing that the Vidar was in the center, with Yggdrasil and Freya to one side.

Mine didn't shut down thermally, it was over-current. When I first decided to try Vidar almost 3 years ago now I originally ordered a single one and ran it on my 4 ohm center channel at insane levels for 3 hours or so (around 95 dB at 3 meters) to see if it would go into thermal protection because if it did, there was no need in ordering 2 more for the mains. The warmest I saw was in the low 70's (C) and I believe Jason stated thermal shutdown on Vidar (Aegir might be as well) wasn't until 85 (C).

Guess it depends what you are driving with them, they get plenty hot for me. And my completely subjective opinion is they sound better the hotter they get. Keep them in the 50s C, they rock.

That's 85C measured internally though. 70C outside the case is indeed thermal shutdown territory.

Has anyone tried vertically biamping 2 Aegirs? I know people have talked about horizontal with Vidar on the bass and Aegir on the highs, but seems like if what you're after is "stereo Aegir, but more" vertical biamping would get you 2x the power without the change in sound signature that happens when you put it in differential mode, which might be enough for speakers on the borderline. Could be totally wrong though (haven't tried it).
