    EDIT:
Not sure if this is some kinda collaboration with Sony. --> Turns out neither collab nor homage
Seems a gimmick or joke product. --> + Trolling and shameless rip-off

In USD, $1,240 for dynamic driver version and $4,850 for planar driver version.

Almost $4k for planars? Is this a typo?

Introduce the blizzardcon guy "is this an out of season...". Gamers will get this.

This seems weird. And that price...

Will the dynamic version also use biodynamic drivers?

Hmmm... That wood doesn't look like a veneer. Are we sure it's made by HFM?

My initial reaction is - "the headband from the cheapest model, on an almost $5000 dollar headphone?"

I'd really like to hear it, but..oof.

Knowing Hifiman, those will probably end up being veneer.

Somehow this release perfectly fits the summer of 2020.

Sony's Z1R at least aroused some curiosity, but that cheap-looking product... *facepalm*
Why don't they just name "Susvara Closed" -- with slightly more original cup designs? R10 concept seems to dis-market...

Just want to make sure that I am not a big fan of OG R10. A couple of auditions years ago were all underwhelming.

I don't think so, from the pic of the dynamic version on the Chinese forum that @Vtory cited, it didn't mention anything "bio", just "Typology Diaphragm".

And even on the Chinese forum, people were trashing HifiMan's copying and bad marketing.

Sorry for being cheap, but my personal experience with HifiMan headphones is to wait for the price dive on second-hand market or Adorama.

I am wondering if they are using the drivers from the susvara. Edit: missed that Vtory came to the same conclusion too.

But this seems pretty BS. So what if the cups look like R10. Its like buying a Lamborghini kit car.

Left: Sony OG | Right: HFM Copy

Not very accurate, because the right in the picture is way way way way cheaper than the left. HFM failed to make the rip-off cheap..

That's the biggest difference. So, we are buying cheap knock-offs at the original price. I don't see this happening in any other industry.

I’m all for making a buck, but I think HFM just jumped the shark.

Ah... didn't realize there were OEM cups... Some of Chinese audiophiles are obsessed with Sony-R10. They were using these cups on their TH-900, because... bio-dynamic diaphragm + the cups ~ R10?

So I thought this HFM stuff is designed for Chinese market, but it's got no bio-dynamic stuff, so nope.

And... look at those drivers... Is the planar one on the left using the driver on HE5 (2017) without the ring? So can I copy it by using a pair of HE5 (2017), a pair of ear pads on HE5SE, then gluing a pair of those OEM cups on the back? (I know HFM would brag about their "Neo Ultra-thin Nano Membrane X Pro GT", and it looks like the structure is slightly different on these headphones.)

Don't care a whit about the planar but, while it's a bit hard to tell because of image quality, doesn't the black baffle on the HE-R10 (sigh) seem to have the same vent patterns as the OG R10 down to the three screws arranged around the baffle in a triangle? MDR-R10 baffle is wooden, though. Driver seems to be angled the same way as on the original, which makes sense because of cup shape.

The fact that it's apparently not a biocellulose driver kills my interest as well, but I'm curious about someone brave or wealthy snagging one of these and then transplanting a TH900 diaphragm & magnet assembly into it. Also wondering how close the Fostex kids get to the R10 with the OEM cups installed, but that's another thing entirely.
