I'm a big fan of dbpoweramp, which uses EAC (exact audio copy) and has some advanced features for hard to rip discs.

Dbpoweramp is also available on Mac, and I prefer it over XLD, although XLD is fine and also free.

This has been answered before. EAC is the most secure.

I like Musicbee because it feels very easy. It rips to flac, uses error detection stuff and checks your rip against a dB for exactness.

mhmm, EAC for lyfe, I also use Tag&rename if I want to go back and fine tune the meta data that EAC sometimes doesn't grab

I have had excellent results using Easy CD-DA Extractor.

It supports most file formats and allows CD ripping, CD creation, metadata editing and audio format conversion.

I use EAC as well. Takes a little time to set it up for optimal performance though.

Thanks guys, I'll try and work with EAC.

I was also wondering if it's possible to rip Beck - Sea Change (Original Master Recording 24K Gold CD MFSL) with a normal CD/DVD drive on my computer, or do I need something special for that? http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...acd_new_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=&sr=

I like this album but the 2002 version is kinda compressed lol. I hear this version is good so I thought I'd buy this, but just needed to make sure I can actually rip it first.

EAC and then Foobar with MusicBrainz Tag plugin for better tagging.

Don't think there would any issue with reading a gold cd from a drive that supports error correction.

Are you guys familiar with Plextools Professional? That's what I've been using for ages, since I got it free with my Plextor drive (I've been buying Plextor drives since the SCSI days). I haven't tried any of the others, so I'm interested to see if anyone has compared them to Plextools. I have mainly used it to check for C1/C2/CU on PMCDs I've made for clients and I've always thought it was thorough at extracting data from CDs.

I second what VelvetX recommends. Gives you bit perfect files. You don't need a special drive to rip cds anymore. Why am I still a rando..

I should have been more clear, I have been using Plextor drives for ages because I work in audio. I think these are the only drives that allow you to generate C1/C2/CU reports (which were useful a few years ago when most projects were delivered in CD-R, before file sharing services became popular). I have been using these drives/software for many years, so I was just wondering if the software mentioned was any better or worse (for those who might have heard of or compared them to Plextools).

If you work in audio and are asking us I kind of feel you are in trouble. EAC in conjunction with DBPoweramp is used by many talented CD rippers and includes log files. Stick to what you know and don't get caught up in what everyone else is doing especially if this is your job and it depends on it.

Apparently I am the only one who never got EAC to work well. Multiple drives in multiple computers over many years, and lots of rips with skips and pops and noises. With Vortexbox rips, on the other hand, I've never had a problem.
